Exploring the Charms of BRATISLAVA, 🇸🇰 Slovakia for Christmas
A Delicious Start at Brixton House
As soon as we arrived in Bratislava, we stumbled upon a delightful cafe right across from our Airbnb. Named Brixton House, this charming spot beckoned us in with its cozy ambiance. We couldn't resist trying their mouthwatering dishes. I opted for the pumpkin risotto, while others indulged in the savory duck and chicken quesadillas. Trust me, this place is a foodie's paradise!
Exploring Bratislava Castle
This iconic landmark holds great historical significance as it dates back to the first written reference of the city in 907. The castle stood majestically against the backdrop of a picturesque winter wonderland. We couldn't help but admire the enchanting Christmas decorations that adorned the castle's exterior.
Inside, we discovered a charming courtyard that was open to the public free of charge. However, the real gem was found at the back of the castle - the gardens; offering breathtaking views and the perfect backdrop for some Instagram-worthy photos.
The Magnificence of Primates Palace
Next on our list was a visit to Primates Palace, a grand building dating back to 1778. This is where the mayor of Bratislava resides today. The palace fascinated us with its intricate details and vibrant colors, making it even more captivating than the castle itself!
Get another view of Old Town
Go up Michael's Gate to get another panoramic view of the city, including Bratislava Castle!
Need a Matcha fix?!
Found this little gem as I was browsing the Christmas Market and their Match Lattes were delicious!
An unusual local
The bronze statue, with a grin on his face, peeks his head from underneath a manhole cover in the Old Town and he is popular among tourists and locals alike. You cannot visit Bratislava without saying hi to Čumil!
The Enigmatic Blue Church
Time to warm up
It's now time to take a little break and enjoy a warm drink and snack at this cute little Cafe. They can even print your face or your pet's on your coffee as they have a latte art printer!
Spectacular Views from Old Town Hall
To get a bird's-eye view of the city and the bustling Christmas Market, we climbed up Old Town Hall. The entrance fee was three Euros, and there was no elevator, so be prepared for a bit of a workout! However, the panoramic views from the top were absolutely worth it. We savored the sight of the city's charming rooftops and the festive market below.
Indulge in traditional Slovak food
We couldn't resist trying some local specialties, such as creamy garlic soup with bread, three types of dumplings (potato dumplings with cheese, pierogies, and cabbage dumplings), and the hearty goulash. Each bite was filled with warmth and flavor, leaving us craving for more.
A night at the Christmas Market
No visit to Bratislava would be complete without shopping and indulging in the delicious treats offered at the Christmas Market.
The city also had music shows at the Christmas Market where we discovered a wonderful Slovak artist: Tamara Kramar, you should definitely check her out!
Have tea in an Underground/Bunker Tea Room
Needless to say this was an unusual experience! We stumbled across this Underground Tea Room as we were exploring the Old Town.
Go up an out-0f-this-world Tower
Get a different view of the city and grab a meal in the sky!
Grab a quick snack
Delicious and inexpensive. Great vegan options which was great for my friends! Highly recommend
Farewell Bratislava
As our time in Bratislava came to a close, we made sure to savor one last snack at the Christmas Market before our departure the next morning. I couldn't resist indulging in some chocolate-covered fruits, a sweet treat to bid adieu to this enchanting city.
