You’ll get a lot of the same recommendations for downtown Charleston (High Cotton, Husk, SNOB), and while those are all very good restaurants, I want to give you the local take on some of the greatest spots around the city that might not show up at the top of your searches.

Downtown / King Street
If you’re visiting Charleston then King Street will come up a lot in your searches. King street has some great shopping and even better restaurants. Whether you’re looking for southern classics like shrimp and grits or venturing out for high quality Chinese food, downtown Charleston and King Street are your go to places!

R Kitchen is a unique restaurant concept where there is a different menu every night. The restaurant is a cozy spot with a counter & open kitchen offering a seasonal 5-course menu for $70.
According to their website, R Kitchen is “designed to give chefs the freedom to play with food as they see fit without the constraints of a set menu. Since we love making adjustments as we go, menus are not available prior to checking in for your reservation.”
Make sure to make a reservation at one of their two locations: Downtown and West Ashley.
