Getaway to the Gili islands: which one to visit

The Gili Islands are a group of 3 small islands off the coast of Lombok, Indonesia and are easily accessible by boat from Bali. These islands are a must see if you ever get the chance to visit, they are home to some of the best beaches and crystal clear waters the earth has to offer. Each of the islands has its own vibe and offers a different kind of experience; in this guide I'll explain the differences between the islands, and recommend some places to stay on each one from personal experience.

Gili Meno

This island is for those who truly want to get away from it all, it has a remote feeling and is a great option if you are looking for seclusion. Gili Meno is the most under developed of the 3 islands, accommodation and amenities here are limited but it is an untouched and unspoiled land with some of the very best beaches in the world. Here is where we would stay on Gili Meno:

None of these islands have any public transport. Although the islands are small, it is essential that you stay near the center as the only form of transportation here is by walking or hiring a bike.

How long should I stay on the Gili islands?

If you are visiting the Gili islands from Bali it does take around 2-4 hours to get there by boat so you would definitely want to be staying here 2-3 nights to make your journey worth while. You could easily stay here for a week or longer if it’s a relaxed island get-away you're after.
