Upon landing at Zurich Airport, you'll start your two-day exploration of Zurich, Switzerland's vibrant financial and cultural hub. Begin your journey by taking a taxi, walking, or riding the efficient train system to your chosen accommodation to drop off your luggage. For a central location, consider staying in the Old Town (Altstadt) area, where you can easily access many of Zurich's attractions. 

After checking in, head out to Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world's most exclusive shopping streets. Even if you're not in the mood for high-end shopping, strolling along this bustling street is an experience in itself. Along the way, you can grab a coffee and a pastry at one of the charming cafes. 

For a thrilling and unforgettable day in Grindelwald, you'll want to start early to make the most of your time and avoid lines. Head to Grindelwald First, one of the most iconic mountain destinations in the Swiss Alps. Arriving at 8 am for the first ascent is a fantastic idea to ensure you have plenty of time for all the exciting activities. Make sure to book your tickets ahead of time to avoid any disappointments if they sell out.

From Bahnhofstrasse, make your way to Lake Zurich (Zürichsee). Here, you can enjoy a relaxing boat ride or simply take a leisurely walk along the picturesque promenade. If the weather is pleasant, consider having a picnic by the lake or visiting one of the many lakeside parks. In the evening, make your way to the Old Town (Altstadt) for a taste of Zurich's history and culture.

Explore the narrow cobblestone streets, visit Grossmünster and Fraumünster, two iconic churches with stunning architecture and historical significance. 

Begin your second day in Zurich with a visit to the Swiss National Museum (Landesmuseum Zürich), located not far from the main train station. This museum offers insights into Switzerland's rich history, culture, and art, making it a perfect place to start your day of exploration.

Afterward, travel to the Lindt Chocolate factory to witness the art of chocolate-making up close and indulge in some of the finest Swiss chocolate. Upon arriving in Grindelwald, check into your chosen hotel and drop off your luggage. Then, head to the Pfingstegg area, where you can experience the thrilling Pfingstegg Toboggan Run. The mountain lift is located just a short walk from downtown Grindelwald and is included with your Berner Oberland Pass. This exciting attraction allows you to descend the mountain on a toboggan through twists and turns while enjoying incredible Alpine views.

We recommend buying a 6 Berner Oberland Pass for this trip, beginning on day 3 when you head to Grindelwald. This will allow you unlimited travel within the Berner Oberland Region on the majority of trains, busses, ferrys, and mountain lifts. 

Begin your adventure, with the First Glider, a unique zip line experience that lets you soar high above the alpine landscape, feeling the wind rush past you as you take in the panoramic vistas. It's an exhilarating experience that will get your day off to an exciting start. Make sure to get in line for this activity first as the lines can get very long later in the day!

Next up, visit the First Cliff Walk, where you can walk along a thrilling cliffside pathway offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. This activity is free and is an absolute must for adventure enthusiasts!

Afterwards, hop on the First Carts for an adrenaline-pumping ride down the mountain. These wheeled carts allow you to control your descent as you navigate the winding trails, making for an exhilarating and fun-filled activity. 

To continue your adventure in the serene beauty of the Swiss Alps, embark on a hike to Bachalpsee Lake. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and pristine alpine meadows. It's a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region. This hike is moderately challenging, being 3.7 miles roundtrip with 636ft elevation gain.

Lake Bachalpsee Hike

Spend a day exploring the picturesque villages of Lauterbrunnen, Gimmelwald, and Mürren in the Swiss Alps. Begin your journey by taking a cable car from the Grindelwald Terminal to Wengen via the Männlichenbahn. This scenic ride is included with your Berner Oberland Pass and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including the iconic Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks. 

From Wengen, board a train that will take you to the enchanting valley of Lauterbrunnen, known for its stunning waterfalls and lush meadows. Upon arrival in Lauterbrunnen, you can either walk through the beautiful valley and view the waterfalls up close, or transition to a bus that will take you to the Stechelberg cable car station, your gateway to the Schilthorn region. 

Here, you have the option to take a cable car up to Gimmelwald, a serene mountain village known for its tranquility and stunning vistas. Don't forget to check out the honesty shop in Gimmelwald, where you can purchase locally made goods and souvenirs!

 For lunch, stock up on picnic supplies in Gimmelwald and head to Mürren. From Mürren you have the option to take the Allmendhubel to a picturesque meadow overlooking the valley. The funicular ride from Mürren to Allmendhubel is free with the BO Pass (Bernese Oberland Regional Pass), offering a relaxing way to reach your destination.

 After a leisurely picnic with breathtaking Alpine views, embark on a easy scenic hike from Mürren down to Gimmelwald. This trail offers fantastic panoramas of the surrounding mountains, and the gentle descent allows you to appreciate the beauty of the region at a relaxed pace. Along the way, you'll encounter charming alpine farms, wildflowers, and maybe even some friendly locals.

As your day draws to a close, consider taking the cable car from Mürren back down to Lauterbrunnen, where you can catch a train back to your starting point in Grindelwald, wrapping up a memorable day filled with stunning scenery and Alpine charm.

Mürren to Gimmelwald Hike

Begin your journey by catching an early morning lift on the Grindelwald Express to Kleine Scheidegg (included with BO Pass), where the awe-inspiring views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks will greet you. Upon arrival at Kleine Scheidegg, transfer to the cogwheel railway that takes you to the Jungfraujoch, also known as the "Top of Europe."

This high-altitude destination offers a breathtaking panorama of the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps, and an Ice Palace filled with mesmerizing ice sculptures. Spend a few hours exploring the Jungfraujoch and taking in the expansive vistas. Enjoy lunch at one of the mountain restaurants or bring your own picnic to savor amidst the snowy wonderland. Don't forget to dress warmly as the temperatures can be quite chilly at this altitude, even in the summer. 

In the afternoon, set off on an unforgettable hike along the Eiger Trail, which leads from the Jungfraujoch to Alpiglen. The trail offers stunning views of the Eiger's imposing north face and the surrounding landscapes. The hike is moderately challenging, and you'll pass through a varied terrain of snowfields, rocky paths, and verdant meadows. As you descend, you'll feel truly immersed in the alpine environment, with the sound of cowbells in the distance and the crisp mountain air invigorating your senses. This is one of the most beautiful hikes you can do in the Swiss Alps! Upon reaching Alpiglen, you can catch the train back to Grindelwald, bringing your day of high-altitude exploration and hiking to a close. 

Eiger Trail: Eiger Glacier - Alpiglen

Interlaken, Brienz Rothorn, and Harder Kulm

Begin your day with a leisurely stroll along the Hoheweg, Interlaken's main boulevard, and take in the breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains. You can also enjoy some coffee and pastries at one of the charming cafes along the way.

Next, make your way to the Brienz Rothorn Bahn, a historic cogwheel railway. Board this charming train to ascend to the summit of the Brienzer Rothorn, where you'll be treated to panoramic views of Lake Brienz, the Bernese Oberland, and the Swiss Alps. Explore the observation deck at the summit to fully appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds you.

After your mountain adventure, head to Brunngasse in Brienz, often celebrated as "Europe's MOST beautiful street." This charming and picturesque lane is lined with traditional Swiss chalets, adorned with colorful flower boxes, and exudes an old-world charm that's perfect for a leisurely stroll and some souvenir shopping. 

Cap off your day with a visit to Harder Kulm (included with BO Pass), often referred to as the "Top of Interlaken." Take the funicular to this stunning viewpoint, offering breathtaking vistas of Interlaken, Lake Thun, and Lake Brienz. The observation platform is an excellent spot for a late afternoon or early evening visit to watch the sunset over the Jungfrau mountain range, creating a truly magical conclusion to your day.

Today you will travel from Grindelwald to Zermatt. Using the SBB app, map your train route and purchase tickets using your Swiss Half Fare Card. The Swiss trains will take you through the stunning mountain landscapes, and in approximately 3 hours, you'll arrive in the charming car-free village of Zermatt.

Upon arrival, check into your chosen hotel, drop off your luggage, and prepare for a day exploring the town. Begin your exploration of Zermatt in the heart of the town.

Next, make your way to a Matterhorn viewpoint for some unforgettable photos. 

The iconic Matterhorn is one of the most famous mountains in the world and is the centerpiece of Zermatt's stunning backdrop. As the day comes to a close, take some time to relax and enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants in Zermatt, where you can savor delicious Swiss cuisine. After your meal, explore the charming streets further, or simply unwind and take in the peaceful, car-free atmosphere that Zermatt is known for.

For dinner, choose from one of the many cozy Swiss restaurants in the area to savor local cuisine like fondue or raclette. We highly recommend dining at Zeughauskeller in Zurich for an authentic Swiss culinary experience. This historic restaurant is known for its hearty and delicious Swiss dishes, such as Zürcher Geschnetzeltes and Rösti. The rustic ambiance, warm hospitality, and extensive beer and wine selection make it a perfect place to immerse yourself in Swiss cuisine and culture.

In the afternoon, make your way to the charming neighborhood of Lindenhof, a historic hilltop with panoramic views of the city. It's a serene spot to relax, read a book, or simply take in the cityscape.

A must-visit spot is Hinterdorfstrasse, the oldest part of Zermatt, where you'll find charming, traditional Swiss chalets that transport you back in time. Wander along the cobbled streets, take in the quaint architecture, and perhaps stop for a coffee or a bite to eat at one of the cozy cafes. 

Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and Gornergrat

After your time at the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, continue your journey to the Gornergrat. Take the gondola down to the Furi station and up to the Riffleberg train station. Here you can take the cogwheel railway that leads to this legendary viewpoint, offering a spectacular panorama of the Matterhorn and its neighboring peaks. The scenery from Gornergrat is absolutely mesmerizing, and it's a photographer's paradise.

If you have time and energy to spare, consider taking a short hike to see the adorable Valais Blacknose sheep. These fluffy and photogenic creatures are known for their distinctive appearance, with curly horns and black noses. You can find them at various spots near Gornergrat, adding a delightful and unique touch to your alpine adventure. Each of the sheep have GPS trackers, making it easy to hike to them.
