Local's guide to Wellington

Local's guide to Wellington

I've lived in Wellington for seven years and love getting out and trying new things and exploring this beautiful city. This is what I would do if I had one week!

Here’s a one-week itinerary for Wellington to give you a balanced mix of urban exploration, culture, nature, and relaxation. As a local who enjoys getting out and about I've written this as if I was exploring my own city for a week. So you know exactly what is worth doing!

For places to stay, I would recommend the following destinations:

High end: James Cook Hotel. Their buffet breakfasts are delicious. Request a room with city views. I got the pleasure of staying here once when I won a competition, and my boyfriend and I visit every year for his birthday,

Mid-range: Ibis hotel is nice and close to the action of Lambton Quay but not directly on it so it is guaranteed to be a bit quieter. Also only a few minutes from the waterfront. My family stay here whenever they visit.

Looking for something different? I must admit I haven't stayed here personally but doesn't this look cool! I would love to stay in a lighthouse on the beach, you can't get more exciting than that! Total bucket list option

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hey! I'm originally from Southland, New Zealand but now base myself in the capital city Wellington. I love New Zealand and I love exploring my beautiful country. Growing up my family took us on a month long roadtrip round the country every year. As an adult I get out and explore every chance I can! In particular I love outdoor experiences, hiking, kayaking, and seeing the beauty of New Zealand. My favourite part of the country is probably Mount Aspiring National Park. Truly you need to check it out! Aside from travelling my own country, I have also been lucky enough to travel to 25 countries across the world and studied in France as a university student. I LOVE travel planning and I spend months researching everything I can about the place before I go. I would love to share all this research with you so you can enjoy my trip as much as I did. The other important thing about me is that I am vegetarian. So vegetarian friendly travel is super important to me and I do a lot of research to see what I can eat in a destination. I would love to help you too! So please reach out and I would love to share my research, enthusiasm and love for travel with you and together we can plan an epic trip. I can't wait to hear from you!
