Hotel Recommendations in Amsterdam | Local Advice
Top hotels
The INK Hotel is one of my favorites for it's unique features. It used to be where a newspaper was printed, hence the name! You'll find a printing theme throughout the hotel, even the restaurant/bar is called Pressroom. They make excellent drinks and we've enjoyed a few brunches and dinners as well in that restaurant.
The rooms are very special. They are small, but you're in the center of the city, one of the oldest parts, so it's to be expected. But it's a bathroom setup like you've not seen before. And the mural on the wall mesmerizes me!
The is the MOST unique accommodation we've ever had and it's the one we'll recommend to everyone! It's pricey, yes. But it's an EXPERIENCE in itself.
Bring everything you need for dinner and breakfast because a private boat captain will take you to this private "island" that is the old lock house in the middle of the Amstel River. It's not attached to anything, so unless a friend's going to pick you up by boat, you're there for the night!
The view is unparalleled in the actual literal sense of the word. While I wish I was there during the summer, it was March and still we made the most of it with the full kitchen, wrap around "terraces", and the best views in the city.
The falls under the category of I-haven't-been-but-really-want-to! It's luxury and class, yet it's down to earth at the same time. Ocean's 12 (the movie) was partially filmed here, but I love the location, the bar, the ambiance, and to stay in a canal house is pretty spectacular!
"Elegant" is what I would call the Pestana. Situated on the Amstel River in a surprisingly chill part of time, you can walk to some incredible bars and restaurants if you don't want to eat at the hotel.
The bed is one of the best I've ever slept on and it just feels like vacation as soon as you arrive. It's beautiful and comfy. What more could you want?
I'm slightly obsessed with the style of this hotel. The layout is quirky, because, well, Amsterdam is old and it's a bunch of buildings connected after they were built. They have one of my favorite tea set companies (yes, I know that's VERY specific) as the tea cups in the room. It's Pip Studio's Royal White in case you want to look it up.
Depending on your room, you could get an iconic view, the beds are good, the toiletries are luxurious, and the restaurant serves a delicious breakfast!
One more for the I'll-get-there-eventually list. The Okura is iconic for its luxury. They have some of the best restaurants in the city in the hotel, plus a top floor bar with a jaw-dropping view.
So, while I can't tell you what the bed is like, I can tell you that one of my best friends who lives in Amsterdam has been TWICE because they loved it so much
Hostels
I'm adding these hotels based on my friends' recommendations since I've not stayed in them. But they also have very good taste 😉
