Based on Mexico's Pacific Coast, Puerto Vallarta offers a stark contrast to the country's ever-popular Caribbean coast - with quaint cobbled streets backed by a spectacular mountainous backdrop.
The best time to visit
The dry season runs from November through to June, with November-January being the peak months. If you would prefer to visit when it's a little less crowded, I would recommend April-June. I visited at the end of April/beginning of May and the weather was glorious, but the resort wasn't heaving with tourists.
Where to stay
I stayed at the Dreams Vallarta Bay resort, which is conveniently located about a 40-minute work from the Malecon (the main promenade), or a 5-10 minute taxi journey costing around £4.
