After spending an unforgettable month exploring Sri Lanka with two close friends, I am thrilled to share some of my favourite places we stayed. Each of these accommodations added something unique to our journey, from heart-warming hospitality to breath-taking views. Best of all, all these places worked into our tight back-packer budget. If you're planning a trip to Sri Lanka, consider these wonderful spots for your stay!

Laughing Leopard Hostel - Trincomalee

Our stay at the Laughing Leopard Hostel in Trincomalee was nothing short of amazing and one of my favourite places of the whole trip. The staff were incredibly lovely, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. One of the highlights was the regular family dinners, where we enjoyed delicious local cuisine and made new friends. The common area was perfect for socializing, and the hostel offered various tours that made exploring Trincomalee a breeze. Plus, the main beach was less than a five-minute walk away, making it an ideal location for beach lovers. We stayed in a 6 bed dorm and loved meeting new people in this hostel.

We also learned that Laughing Leopard has another location in Nuwara Eliya. Although we didn't get the chance to stay there, given our wonderful experience in Trincomalee, I'm certain it would have been equally fantastic.

Tree Breeze Inn - Kandy

Amongst the crazy city of Kandy, we found a haven at the Tree Breeze Inn, run by a wonderful woman who made us feel right at home. The big, nicely decorated rooms with wooden aesthetic elements blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Waking up to the sights and sounds of nature each morning was a refreshing experience, making this inn a perfect retreat in the bustling city of Kandy.

Top Heavens - Ella

Ella's Top Heavens was another highlight of our trip. This guesthouse, run by a charming family, offered stunning views of Ella Rock and Little Adam's Peak. We loved starting our day with a full breakfast and fresh tea and coffee, all prepared for a small fee. Their family dog was lovely and made us feel right at home amongst the breath-taking scenery.

Sunset View Beach Hotel - Arugam Bay

For those seeking beachside relaxation, the Sunset View Beach Hotel in Arugam Bay is a must-visit. The spacious wooden aesthetic rooms were a delight, and the rooftop provided a perfect spot to watch the sunrise. Being just 100 meters from the beach, it was a fantastic location for early morning swims and evening strolls. The nice bathrooms and overall comfort made our stay here truly enjoyable.

Inn on the Bay Guest House - Pasikudah

The Inn on the Bay Guest House in Pasikudah stands out for its heart-warming story and exceptional hospitality. The kind owner has adopted many dogs in need, creating a loving and welcoming environment. The beautiful garden added to the charm, and the rooms and bedding were comfortable and inviting. Although we didn't get to try the breakfast, the owner buys fresh fish directly from the fishermen to prepare delightful meals in the evening, adding a personal touch to our stay.

Relax Nature Villa - Sigiriya

Our final favourite spot was Relax Nature Villa in Sigiriya, a stunning eco-friendly place nestled in lush green gardens. The home-built feel and attention to detail made it a unique stay. The owner prepared an amazing breakfast buffet at an affordable price, and the comfy beds ensured we were well-rested for our adventures. The swing in the trees was a fun touch, and the owner’s hospitality made our time here memorable.
