Valle d’Aosta is the smallest of Italy’s regions but boasts the biggest mountains!

A car is pretty necessary in region if you want to hike. Buses can get you between towns if that’s your priority, but many of the trail heads are far enough that you need to drive.

Another thing worth noting: the temperatures in Aosta won’t reflect temperatures at the peaks, or even midway up! So make sure to bring some warm clothes even in summer.

The biggest advantage to staying in Aosta is the food! Italian Alpine food is delicious; hearty and full of flavor, perfect for after a day outdoors.
