How to get into Edinburgh City Centre
🚄 The cheapest yet convenient way to get into Edinburgh is taking LNER train from London to Edinburgh (Waverley) which takes approximately 4 hrs 15 min. The cost starts from £40 depending on when you book. In UK, it's highly advisable to book atleast few weeks in advance to avoid paying high prices. I suggest using thetrainline.com to book your tickets.
🤑 HOT TIP --> Buy a rail card if you're planning to take multiple train trips in the UK which helps you save atleast 1/3rd on each trip.
🚶♀️The Edinburgh Waverley Station is located between New Town and Old Town. Depending on where you book your accommodation, it will take you 10-15 min to walk to the city centre. Even though Edinburgh is a compact pedestrian friendly city, it's built on several hills so might get a little harder to walk if you are carrying a lot of luggage.
🙌 Highly recommend this train for the comfort and scenic views of the countryside. Totally worth the time I spent in commute <3
Local's favourite family owned spot, medieval Scottish atmosphere & local cuisine. Vegan friendly (try Butternut Squash Risotto). Also offers set lunch and dinner menu.
Other dishes to try: Casserole of the day, catch of the day, famous banoffee pie and local Scottish dessert called Cranachan (attached pic)
Enjoy a traditional Scottish meal of haggis, neeps and tatties at this budget friendly place especially when you're trying it for the first time and is not a meat aficionado. Might take you a few bites to get used to the taste or may be not :P
One of the best cheeseburgers of my life. Not gonna lie. This place is highly underrated for the epic burgers they sell. Definitely have it with their mind-blowing ales.
Recommend taking a guided tour of the castle which takes 1.5-2 hrs. The One O'Clock Gun, fired daily except Sundays, is a popular tradition at the castle.
This is the official residence of the British Monarch in Scotland. Located at the other end of the Royal Mile, you can tour the gardens and enjoy views of the Arthur's Seat. Book your tickets in advance online.
JK Rowling took inspirations for the character names in the Harry Potter books from the tombstones of this graveyard. The real Tom Riddle's grave lies here. The cafe opposite this grave used to be the main location where JK Rowling wrote her books
