Belgium - Underrated Country in Europe?

▪️Overshadowed by its neighboring countries nearby such as France, Luxembourg, Germany, and the Netherlands, Belgium seems to be underrated and usually left out when visiting European countries.

Why you MUST (re)consider including Belgium when planning your next visit to Europe?

Here are some reasons:

📍 BELGIAN CHOCOLATES are the BEST in the world.

📍BELGIAN BEERS are the BEST in the world, with early 1,500 different beers you can enjoy.

📍Belgium has the BEST WAFFLE in the whole earth.

📍FRIES (or chips) originated in Belgium and not in France.

📍Belgium houses the world's leading and largest DIAMOND CENTER in the world. A good place to look for the perfect engagement ring!

📍 Belgium is known to be the land of ARCHITECTURAL WONDERS so if you are an Aesthete, you are in for a treat here.

📍Belgium has about 3,000 CASTLES and around 400 of them are still open and accessible to the public.

📍Belgium is divided into 3 language communities, each with different parliamentary leaders and its own rules.

📍Belgium is one of the 43 sovereign states in the world where a KING or monarch reigns, so you'll have an opportunity to see and (maybe) visit his Palace here.

📍 Belgium is known around the world for its great inventions. There are at least 20 Belgian inventors known such as the saxophone, the contraceptive pill, Imodium, the World Wide Web, and the jpeg conversion just to name a few.

When is the Best Time to Visit Belgium?

Belgium is an all-year round travel destination, and its peak season is between June and August.

So the best time to go for budget conscious travelers is between March to May and from September to early November.

If you fancy winter markets, its good to know that it starts to open as early as mid-November in small cities like Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and Leuven.

How Many Days Are Needed to Cover Belgium?

It all depends on what you want to see and experience. Since Belgium is very small, all of its cities are smaller compared to other European cities in general.

So it is safe to say a long weekend trip to Belgium can be more than enough to experience all the best it has to offer. Of course planning ahead is the best way to maximize your trip.

And I am here to help you out with your planning. I can prepare a personalized itinerary for you based on your preferred activities and want to experience. I can also provide list of recommendations on what to do, where to stay, what to eat and drink, and where. And most especially what tourist trap to avoid.

What are the Most Visited Cities in Belgium?

📍Brussels - Belgium's Capital where NATO, European Parliament, and European Commission are located.

📍Bruges - a UNESCO world heritage holder for its Medieval setting, nicknamed the 'Venice of the North'.

📍Antwerp - the DIAMOND CAPITAL of the world

📍Ghent - where you can visit a Medieval castle dating from the 12th century.

📍Leuven - known for having the best beers and a mecca of books as it is here where famous Belgian universities are located.

📍Dinant - Birthplace of the inventor of the Saxophone

📍Waterloo - where the famous battlefield of Napoleon Bonaparte happened.

And so much more!

♦️If you plan to visit Europe this summer, why not consider timing your trip to see Brussels Town Square carpeted with fresh flowers? It will be held in mid-August of 2024.

NOTE: Belgium's capital - Brussels hosts the magnificent Flower Carpet Festival which is worth visiting too. It's a bi-annual event, where the main town square called the Grote Markt/Grand Place will be covered with fresh begonia flowers for 4 days and is usually held mid-August.
