Madrid on a budget

High experience, low cost Madrid. This collection is perfect for bacpackers, study abroad students or anyone else trying to keep their spending low while in Madrid. Definitely worth investing a few bucks now to save much more down the road, and Madrid has a lot to offer.

San Fernando Market
@brittanya
All the travel guides will recommend Mercado San Miguel, which is stunning, but quite expensive. I went recently with visitors and the cheapest thing I saw was a plate of veggies for 12 euros. You can eat much better for a more reasonable cost at other local markets like San Fernando, Mercado de Anton Martín, Mercado de San Ildefonso in Malasaña and the Mercado de San Anton in Chueca. I will add them to the guide as well!

El Tigre Sidra Bar
@brittanya
El Tigre has become local legend. While it's not the most glamorous joint in the city, it certainly gives you bang for your buck. When you order a beer, they give you a gigantic plate of food featuring a variety of Spanish food that they've whipped up that day (could be the Spanish Tortilla, Wings, Patatas Bravas, Rice, etc) that will leave you feeling full for only the cost of a drink or two.

100 Montaditos
@brittanya
I am not particularly recommending the food at 100 montaditos but if you are on a very tight budget it’s a good way to eat and drink for very little money. They have 100 different types of montaditos (small finger sandwiches) and run a special deal on Wednesdays and Sundays for literally one euro each.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hey! I'm an adventurer/ super planner with a taste for good food and a coffee vice that sometimes feels slightly unhealthy :) I'm currently living in Madrid, Spain, but have lived in several cities across Europe, North America and (for a brief stint) in the Carribbean. You're in safe hands here as I am a food tour guide here in Madrid, and I take my food very seriously! (Link to the tour is inlcuded in my bio) I'd love to share some of my favorite places with you from along my travels, and personally know the benefit of having a little extra assistance in trip planning. Sometimes you just don't have the time or connection with a local to truly find the best spots, and if you've traveled all the way, you might as well see somewhere great! Here are some of the services I offer: -Personalized recommendations based on your preferences ($15 and up) -Bespoke itineraries to suit the needs of your trip ($40 per day, includes full day's planning with directions, activities and food/ drinks) -Travel Consult Calls (Discuss how to best approach your trip, clear up any travel doubts and gain peace of mind, etc. $30 for 45 minutes) -DIY Food Tour Route Planned for you with food recommendations featuring the local cuisine ($50)
