Soak up the Culture and Nature in Guatemala!
Antigua
Antigua is by far the prettiest city of Guatemala and for a good reason. It used to be the colorful capital influenced by the spanish colonists. Aside from the Iglesia de la Merced and the Santa Catalina Arch, there are a lot more historical buildings around town. From the main square you can join daily free walking tours that are tip-based to learn all about the history of the city. The central square is a lively place full of vendors. There are even stunning public toilets here.
I went to the Tanque La Unión, the Iglesia San Pedro Apóstol, the Santa Clara Convent and the Convento de la Compania de Jesus among many others. Aside from learning about the history and seeing all the sights, the city is the perfect place to buy souvenirs. Among the artisanal products, I am sure something will catch your eye. It reminded me a lot of Cusco, Peru.
The city is surrounded by volcanoes and mountains. Hike up to the Cerro de la Cruz viewpoint to look out over the city or head to Hobbitenango and let your fantasy run wild.
