Hidden Gems: Dorset 🏖
Hidden Gems: Dorset 🏖
Faye Hughes
After spending 3 years at Bournemouth University, I can easily say that Dorset is one of my favourite places in England.
I've had the opportunity to explore some beautiful, tranquil places on the Southwest Coast.
Here I'm sharing some of my favourite spots in Dorset, which you might not know existed!

Durdle Door
@fayehughes
One of the more popular 'hidden' gems.
A gorgeous landmark with a shingle beach!
Durdle Door is accessible from a car park above, which leads you down some (fairly steep) steps to the beach below. Enjoy the pretty views on your way down!

Blue Pool, Dorset
@fayehughes
Depending on the weather, this lake can look a slightly different colour every time you visit!
You can't swim in the lake, but it will take you roughly 50 minutes to walk around the lake. The area also includes a tearoom, gift shop and viewpoint.

Old Harry Rocks
@fayehughes
The perfect place to enjoy the views, have a picnic or go for a leisurely stroll!
There is a large open grass area on top of the landmark, which also overlooks Knoll Beach Studland

Knoll Beach Studland
@fayehughes
This beach seems to be Dorset's best kept secret!
It's nowhere near as packed as what you will find Bournemouth beach on a sunny day, and provides 4 miles of sand.
You can access the beach from Knoll Beach Car Park or walk from Old Harry Rocks (roughly 2 miles / 40 minutes walk)

Rockford Sandpit
@fayehughes
A giant sandpit on the outskirts of the New Forest!!!
With a car park at the bottom and short walk up/around the sandpit, you can enter the tranquil area that is the New Forest. A lovely walk surrounded by a few friendly wild horses!

Hengistbury Head
@fayehughes
There is a circular walk which you can take around Hengistbury Head, which takes roughly 1 hour 30 minutes.
However, if you prefer a more relaxed visit then it's a gorgeous place to watch the sunset or visit the beach!

New Forest Water Park
@fayehughes
Something a bit different to cool you off on a hot summers day!
I've visited this Water Park many times with my boyfriend, friends and family. No matter who I go with, it's always a blast and such a fun day out

Moors Valley Country Park & Forest
@fayehughes
A peaceful forest to have a day out!
You can walk around the country park, like I've done many times, or you can have a more active family day out by doing the Play Trail or Go Ape
