Feel the sea breeze on your face, breathe the fresh air and receive all the health benefits living by the sea can give.

You've heard about the sauna-and-cold-plunge craze but not yet taken the leap? Brighton & Hove is a great place to try it out! Winter and summer alike, the benefits and endorfins you get from the contrast of hot and cold is truly exhilarating. Add the sea breeze and salt water to the list and you have a solid recipe for a healthy weekend reset.

For me, growing up in the Nordics, sauna is a long standing tradition and whether you enjoy it at home during the colder months, to warm up after a long day of skiing and being outdoors, or after an swim at the local swimming pool I find it always gets the heart pumping and endorfins flowing leaving me with a great, refreshed feeling. Here are my tips and recommendations for outdoor sauna in Brighton and Hove.

BeachBox - seaside sauna in Kemptown

This is probably the most known sauna and cold plunge spa in Brighton & Hove. They have three saunas set around a small gravel courtyard with lounge chairs and tables.

They offer different aufguss options with essential oils, scrubs etc. which you can bring into the sauna with you for an even more spa-like experience. Prices range from £12.50 for 45 minutes Express Sauna to £30 for 90 minutes and the number of people per sauna varies depending on the size.

I visited in winter and it was a bit dark and cold outside the sauna and when trying to change or go between the buildings and cold plunge pools. I could see it being more social and fun in summer when you can really make full use of the amenities and the seaside location.

Saunadelic -- wood fired sauna at Hove Lagoon

Saunadelic which opened in October 2023 is a fairly recent addition to the Brighton & Hove sauna scene. The team have many years of experience and the atmosphere is really relaxed and friendly.

You should wear a swimsuit of some kind, bring flip-flops or water shoes, and they recommend 2 towels - one for the sauna and one for drying off after if you stay to shower. If you're visiting in winter, beach socks or wet suit shoes could be a good option and don't forget to bring warm clothes and a hat for keeping warm after.

They have a changing room with a few showers and lockers on site. You need to bring a padlock of your own if you have valuables with you. There's not a ton of space or privacy but it's functional and provides protection from the wind in the colder months. They also provide water for sauna goers but you can also bring your own water bottle or snacks.

Sauna and cold plunge gets your heart rate up and you will feel energised  and uplifted afterwards.

Shoreham-by-sea beach and Nomadic sauna

If you want to go in the actual sea and don't particularly wish to deal with the rocky Brighton & Hove beach, Shoreham is a great option only 30 minutes by car or about an hour on the 700 Coastliner bus. Here you have a sandy public beach and if you still want that sauna heat, The Nomadic Sauna is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (check the website for the latest info) and you can book sessions ranging from £7.50 per person.
