7 day Switzerland Itinerary

Day 3: Travel to Interlaken (Base Location)

Depending on your time, other things to do in Montreux include:

-Lavaux vineyards (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Take a 2 hour train early into Zermatt. I would recommend arriving by 0900. However, if you can extend you stay longer and stay one night in Zermatt, I would highly recommend doing so!

TIP:  Before arriving in Zermatt, buy a Peak Pass which will give you access to the lifts and trains outlined below, including admission to Glacier Palace. This pass costs us 390 CHF ($450) for 2 adult passes, as kids under 9 are free. Since we went at the end of October, some of our lift options were closed. Check the lift schedules to plan your day as the schedule changes between the summer and winter months, link below:

0900 - Matterhorn Glacier Ride to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

Things to do at Matterhorn Glacier Paradise:

1200-1300 - Arrive back into Zermatt and have lunch

-Ice Tunnel where you will find ice sculptures and an ice slide

-Restaurant where you can have a snack or lunch break

-Cinema Lounge (place to relax and watch short films of the alps)

1315 - Ride the Gornergat Railway and stop at Rotenboden for the chance to see the picture-perfect mirror image of the Matterhorn against Riffelsee lake

After taking photos, continue your journey on the Gornergrat Railway and stop at the top to Bergstation Gornergrat Bahn, where you can enjoy dinner at the top of the mountain!

First Cliffwalk is a must, IMO! Go early and beat the crowds. We went on a cloudy day and still had an amazing view of the town from above!

After the Cliffwalk, you can potentially make a trip up to Jungfraujoch aka The Top of Europe! Check the timetables for lifts to help you plan out your day.
