1. Terracotta Army

Visiting this UNESCO World Heritage sit is awe-inspiring, as you stand before thousands of life-sized clay soldiers guarding Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s tomb.

The Terracotta Warriors are one of the most extraordinary archaeological finds in the world. The scale and detail of the site are breathtaking and should absolutely be at the top of your list in Xi’an.

2. Ancient City Walls

Stretching nearly 14 kilometres, they encircle the old city, and offer a unique perspective of both historic and modern Xi’an.

Xi’an’s ancient city walls are among the best-preserved city walls in China. Rent a bike and cycle around the walls for an unforgettable experience and a great way to take in the views at your own pace. This was my favourite activity and definitely one of the best things to in Xi’an!

3. Giant Wild Goose Pagoda

Standing at seven stories tall, you can climb to the top of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda for panoramic views of the area.

An iconic landmark that once housed sacred Buddhist scriptures bought from India. The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is surrounded by lush gardens and at night holds a grand fountain show with lights.

4. Small Wild Goose Pagoda

Also known as Jianfu Temple, this place offers a more intimate and less crowded experience than it’s larger counterpart.

I found the Small Wild Goose Pagoda much more enjoyable. Take your time walking through the peaceful gardens and learn about the historic exhibits! My favourite part was finding out the top fell off during an earthquake many years ago!

5. Bell & Drum Towers

Bell Tower
@wanderwithlou
This used to serve as the city's timekeeperm marking dawn with it's resonant bronze bell chimes.

Located in the heart of Xi’an the Bell and Drum Towers are historical symbols of the city. It’s possible to buy a combined ticket to enter both towers, with both offering fascinating exhibitions inside. Standing at the top, you get a fantastic view over the busy streets nearby, and is absolutely one of the best things to do in Xi’an.

6. Muslim Quarter

Muslim Quarter
@wanderwithlou
The streets reflect a unique blend of Chinese and Islamic influences, making it one of Xi’an’s most vibrant cultural hubs.

A bustling neighbourhood known for its delicious street food, this area is perfect for sampling local treats! A highlight is the Great Mosque which dates back to the 8th Century. Unlike traditional mosques, its architecture is distinctly Chinese with courtyards, pagoda style buildings and intricate carvings.

7. Yongxingfang

A lively area that celebrates traditional Shaanxi cuisine and culture. These streets are popular for a variety of local snacks and cultural performances.

Yongxingfang is one of the best places to visit in Xi’an if you want to try new food and experience local culture. It’s an exciting spot to hang out and I really enjoyed my time here!
