Bali Travel Guide: insider tips and unique experiences

Margarita
Hi! My name is Margarita Kulam. I’ve been living in Asia for almost 10 years, combining immigration and entrepreneurship. I enjoy creating unique, aesthetic, and high-quality travel experiences. I spent two years in Bali, actively exploring the island and discovering its hidden gems. I love finding amazing places around the world and sharing them with like-minded people. This guide will not only save you precious time but also provide unforgettable experiences. I’ll skip the well-known locations like popular temples and waterfalls and focus on insider tips and unique experiences. How about having your own fireplace, enjoying cool mountain air, and soaking in a hot jacuzzi under a starry sky? Yes, Bali has places like this too!

Where to Stay

Your accommodation strategy will depend on the length of your stay in Bali.

If you’re staying for 2-3 weeks, great! Choose villas on Airbnb or hotels on Booking, Agoda, etc. Make sure to read reviews carefully and check nearby locations. Ideally, your accommodation should not be near a main road or close to beach clubs, as you’ll otherwise face noise and music until early morning.

When checking the distance from your accommodation to the beach, you might think, “Oh, just a 20-minute walk, perfect!” But be cautious. Many areas in Bali lack sidewalks, making walking along roads unsafe. What seems like a 20-minute stroll could turn into 40 minutes of struggle, leaving you too exhausted to enjoy the beach. Either choose a place close to the beach or rely on taxis if staying farther away. Alternatively, you can drive a scooter or car yourself, which I’ll discuss later.

Ideally, split your time between 2-3 areas to minimize constant travel and immerse yourself in each district’s unique atmosphere. For instance, spend a week in Canggu, 5 days in Ubud, and 5 days in Uluwatu.

For solo travelers, you might choose guesthouses — an excellent option for truly budget-friendly accommodation in Bali. You’ll have a private room with your own bathroom, while the kitchen and pool will be shared with other residents.

For longer stays, consider monthly rentals. Here are the main ways to find long-term housing:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Margarita
Hi, I'm Margarita! Immigrant, creator, and entrepreneur. I’ve been living in Asia since 2015. Seven of those years I spent in Guangzhou, in the south of China. During that time, I launched my own trading company, built strong relationships with factories, and gained invaluable experience in sourcing, logistics, manufacturing, and international trade. Afterward, I moved to Bali and spent two amazing years on the island. While there, I jumped into the world of investment real estate, built my own villa, designed it myself, and eventually sold the finished property. I collaborated with 15 real estate agencies and got to know the entire process inside out. In 2024, I relocated to Singapore, where I now offer consultations to entrepreneurs, investors, and travelers. I’d be happy to share my experiences with you too! I’m also a professional hotel guest who creates high-quality content for luxury hotels. You can check out my portfolio and services on my website https://www.margarita-kulam.com/
