You've probably heard that the most interesting thing about Ottawa is Montreal (local joke). However, Ottawa is anything but boring if you know where to go. Capital of Canada and one of the five largest cities in the country, it is worth a visit if you are already in Ontario. In the following guide, I will share with you all the activities you can do especially if you visit the city in summer. From popular attractions to museums, galleries, parks, beaches, lakes, free events and much more, so you can enjoy your stay exploring one of my favourite cities in Canada.

📍 How to get there

🚄 It is possible to get to Ottawa either by bus or train from any other city. For that, you can book your trip on VIA RAIL and choose the option that suits you best. Traveling by train gives you the opportunity to see the beautiful scenery that surrounds the city and travel comfortably and quickly.

🚗 If you don't mind carpooling with strangers, Kangooride is a great option for you! With this service, you can book the ride that best suits you on any schedule.
I know it sounds a little crazy to travel in strangers' cars, however, Canada is a safe country to do so! It is also a great way to travel cheap and save money!
💰 Prices would vary depending on the carpool, however, these are the prices I have paid to reach Ottawa from different cities in Canada:
Montreal - Ottawa $25 CAD
Quebec City - Ottawa $55-$60 CAD
Sherbrooke - Ottawa $45 CAD

🚎 Transportation and how to move around the city
Ottawa is a city where you can get around by bus or subway. However, you can also walk and discover many new places on foot.

The first thing to know is that Rideau Station is the main station in the city (near Parliament Hill), and from there you can take the train to Turney's Pasture or Blair, the two directions that will take you either downtown or to the suburbs.
Every train has a route map that indicates the stations. If you want to go from any part of the city to downtown Ottawa, just take the Turney's Pasture Train direction.

You can purchase passes at any train station (Rideau, Lyon, Parliament...) to use the train and buses at one of the kiosks in the station and pay by credit card, debit card or even cash.
