Squamish is such a hot spot for digital nomads and the work-from-home lifestyle.  I've been living and working from home in Squamish for five years now, and here are my top local travel and work tips.

Welcome to the Outdoor Adventure Capital of Canada!

This one-room co-working space has all the essentials of a productive temporary office with a private washroom, kitchenette, and lounge. If you're not all conference calls or talking on the phone a lot, this space is great for you to get some focus time in.

This newer, modern office has been my personal work home since it opened in October 2022 and offers a really bright and beautiful view of the Chief and surrounding mountains on clear days. There is a private Zoom Room or Conference Room you can reserve for an hour at a time for calls, otherwise its a great open co-working space as well.

If FREE is more your vibe, check out the Squamish Library. You can only get a wifi code (ask the help desk) for two hours per visit, but depending on your line of digital nomad work, it could be sufficient for a day here or there. The librarians are super accommodating for books and local hot spots as well. 

This used to be a sit-and-stay-all-day sort of cafe, but they've recently maxed out their internet codes for a two-hour stay only. When you order your coffee or treat ask the barista for your personal wifi code and grab a sweet spot indoor or out to make some progress.

Have you ever had authentic Mexican tacos? This comes pretty close. The best in Squamish anyway! Join them on a Tuesday for a classic Taco Tuesday deal with drink specials too.

This is a favorite spot for pizza by the slice and a great donair or salad. Honestly, this is my favorite lunch spot. Go get lunch from this sweet family and their staff.

Vetted as a top restaurant in Squamish since they opened, a top dish here is their vegan ramen. Better than anywhere in the city according to some foodies. I also love their chicken karaage 🤤

A new twist on an old speakeasy cocktail bar, Raincity Distillery is a rebrand on a great old Gin and Vodka distillery in town. They do some really upscale cocktail recipes complemented by a menu of dumplings as a dinner or appetizer dish.

Right by the Cloudburst Cafe is a food truck with with awesome potato wedge fries and other dishes, and they run great happy hour deals that change regularly. Check out their local Instagram page for the latest deals.

If it's water views you're after, head to Brackendale for the Watershed Grill looking over the Squamish River across from the Eagle Preserve.  In the fall and early winter months you'll see dozens of eagles scouting out the salmon run. 

And of course you don't come to work from Squamish without seeing the sights and enjoying the outdoor culture of the area. Here are some of the key outdoor adventure features Squamish is known for.

You can't come and go from Squamish without hiking this trail. If you're an avid outdoor adventurer, you'll be able to get up and down in two hours, but if you plan to spend some quality time soaking up the views at the top, or you just like to take your time, plan on 3 hours to get back to your car. 

As a local, I've got the annual pass to get up here into the alpine any time. It's such a privilege to be able to get up there and enjoy even more trails, plus the amazing restaurant and cafe and the occasional live music or yoga event from the amazing deck overlooking Howe Sound. 

Get your rentals and book a guide here at the local climbing gear store. They'll point you in the right direction for a good starter wall too, but a few I'd suggest checking out if you just want to get used to a different kind of rock in Squamish, or feel out the sport for the first time:  

If the outdoors scare you, go hang out with the crew at the indoor climbing centre in town to give it a try.

There are two awesome cross country ski parks in the area that I love equally for different reasons.  Head to the Whistler Olympic Park to see where the 2010 Vancouver Olympics events were held, or try a bit more adventurous slopes at the Cypress Mountain Nordic Area.

If you're more interested in a backcountry ski or splitboard experience, or the cross-country grind, check out Valhalla Pure for all your dream snow-day gear. If you cross-country ski up to the Callaghan Valley though, they can provide rentals for you there.

For downhill skiing or snowboarding, check out Urban Alpine.  They have all the gear you could hope for there for the best downhill experience. Rent it the evening before your big day so you can head out early to hit the Whistler Blackcomb combo resort.

The most epic downhill experience in the area is none other than Vail's gem acquisition right here at Whistler Blackcomb. Lifts open & close at varying times as the season progresses and daylight hours change, so check the hours before you go.  Even though Squamish is just a convenient 40-minute drive to the slopes, you'll want to give yourself an hour and a half before lifts open to leave.  Do your best to beat the traffic and you'll have a much better start to the day. Bonus... park at the Creekside Gondola to upload to Whistler Mountain for free parking and a shorter drive.

I love the Sea to Sky region and all it has to offer. Squamish is such a welcoming community of people too.  

I'm all about affordable lunches. Eating out has gotten super expensive, so here are some of my favorites for a treat when you don't feel like packing a sandwich.

Everyone needs to blow off some steam now and then, right? Grab a drink and enjoy the good vibes at these local hot spots.

Rain or shine, you've got to get work done.  Find the best space for your working style and needs, whether it's a private office or a bustling coffee shop.
