Destination: Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree National Park is a desert & nature-lovers dream playground. With giant rock formations to climb on & really cool trees (cacti) to explore, it's one of the most unique landscapes in California. This guide holds map pins & information for all of my favorite spots, activities, hikes, hang-out spots, camp spots, & more in Joshua Tree. Unlock it to use on one big trip, or multiple small trips - choose your own adventure! This is a living map, meaning that every time I return to Joshua Tree & do something new, I'll add to it, and you'll get all of the updates automatically! If you find this information helpful, any tips are appreciated for my work :)

Where to Stay

Camping

Jumbo Rocks Campground
@michaela
This is the largest campground in Joshua Tree, and also one of the coolest. Each site is nestled into giant rocks, offering a feeling of privacy in nature. The campground is fully developed with 124 tent and RV sites. There are no hookups or drinking water at the campground though, so byo water. Each site comes with a fire pit and picnic table. There are trash receptacles and pit toilets open year round. Reservations can be made at Recreation.gov and are $20/nignt.

You can also camp in the backcountry…

There are certain areas of the National Park that allow backcountry camping. I believe you just need to be 1 mile from any road in the allowed areas. You can find the areas in any Joshua Tree brochure. No fires are allowed when backcountry camping in Joshua Tree.

~3.5 mile trail thay takes you to the highest point in Joshua Tree. The views are cool from the top because you can see the divide between the Mojave and Colorado deserts (Mojave is where the Joshua trees grow). Mostly uphill to the top but foable
