The Hidden Gems.
Bali boasts a plethora of clubs, yet when discussing nightlife with fellow tourists, they often gravitate towards the same establishments.
Having resided in Bali for two years, I've cultivated a circle of friends who embark on nightly escapades six days a week, and interestingly, we seldom find ourselves frequenting the aforementioned venues.
While I might be risking a breach of secrecy by divulging these hidden gems, I believe it's only equitable that visitors to the island explore beyond the recommendations of typical tourists.
And so, without further ado, I present my compilation of lesser-known and some more renowned locales to venture into during your sojourn on this cherished island.
The Back Room
@isabellebaxter
To uncover this hidden gem, your journey leads to M. MASON Bar & Grill in Canggu. Allow me to elaborate. At first glance, it may present itself as solely a restaurant – a truly exceptional one, I must admit. However, should you venture through to the rear, a concealed world awaits: 'The Back Room.'
Operational each night as a bar, I recommend keeping a watchful eye on their website or Instagram for any additional events that may arise.
A noteworthy tip: For an optimal experience, target your visits for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Of special mention is the AfroRoots event, an enchanting Sunday occurrence brimming with irresistible vibes.

PLATONIC
@isabellebaxter
Weekend after weekend, this destination becomes a hub for locals, expatriates, and the occasional astute traveler.
Nestled within an intimate setting, a medley of DJs and musical genres awaits. Should the prevalent EDM and Techno of Asia lose their allure, I encourage you to grace this establishment with your presence and groove the night away to a distinctive soundscape encompassing RnB, Afro beats, and Hip Hop.
Additional tip: Reserve your visits for Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to fully savor the experience.

Ulu Cliffhouse
@isabellebaxter
Nestled gracefully along the Uluwatu coastline, this exquisite beach club, while not entirely hidden, has certainly gained momentum in popularity of late. Nonetheless, it maintains a more exclusive allure compared to its counterparts, Single Fin and Savaya.
Each weekend, it transforms into a vibrant hub of entertainment, hosting guest DJs hailing from various corners of the globe.
An added highlight is the monthly white party, a cherished tradition that has captured the hearts of attendees since its inception. This event holds such sway that individuals are willing to rearrange their agendas to partake in its festivities.

Peels Records & Bar Bali
@isabellebaxter
Embark on a journey through the record store, and you'll unveil a concealed crimson haven - a haven that boasts extraordinary libations and plays host to exceptional alternative DJs.
Despite its petite dimensions, this bar possesses an inherent charm in its intimate capacity to draw a crowd. The musical vibrations are ceaselessly infectious, beckoning revelers to the dance floor, while the libations possess a distinct potency that resonates favorably.
Moreover, Peels stands as a platform to unearth fresh DJ talents, ones that may not have graced the grander club stages, rendering it an ideal nexus for sonic discovery.

La Brisa Bali
@isabellebaxter
La Brisa has carved a reputation for its rustic, bohemian charm, and a mesmerizing oceanfront setting that never fails to captivate. Its essence exudes an unhurried and relaxed vibe, perfect for languid beachside lounging, cocktail sipping, and panoramic ocean gazing.
While La Brisa may not entirely match the profile of a nocturnal revelry hub like some of its contemporaries, I am steadfast in affirming that it takes the crown for one of the most electrifying party venues when special occasions are afoot.
Consider the likes of Boiler Room and Bali's very own PNNY, curators of the monthly event Basement Love, as names to reckon with. When in Bali, it's imperative to keep a keen eye on their Instagram pages to ascertain the presence of an event during your stay – a venture that I assure you will not disappoint.
A salient reminder: While indoor spaces are blessed with air conditioning, the venue as a whole can become rather sultry. Hence, when preparing for a visit, opt for attire that eschews trousers, long sleeves, or heavy makeup to ensure a more comfortable experience.
Details
Luigi's Hot Pizza
@isabellebaxter
Exclusively reserved for Mondays!
Bali's very own DJ collective, PNNY, orchestrates a captivating soirée dubbed 'Metto Monday' each week. This event is a delightful immersion into a realm of splendid music, skillfully curated by every member of the collective.
A noteworthy pointer: As the indoor spaces are blessed with air conditioning, do bear in mind that the overall ambiance might become quite balmy. To ensure your comfort, it's advisable to avoid donning trousers, long sleeves, or heavy makeup.

Da Maria
@isabellebaxter
Nestled in the heart of Seminyak, Bali, Da Maria stands as a beloved Italian eatery and bar that boasts a contemporary, chic design, infusing vibrancy into its milieu. Its allure is further heightened by a vivacious atmosphere and a delectable array of Italian culinary delights.
Da Maria's claim to fame rests upon its mastery of crafting irresistible pizzas, pastas, and cocktails. The venue often plays host to melodious tunes and skillful DJs, particularly as dusk transforms into evening. This rhythmic evolution culminates in spirited Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday nights, which transmute Da Maria into a dynamic party space.
While Da Maria might not be primarily classified as a club, it unquestionably transmutes into a remarkable nocturnal haven on the mentioned days.
Wednesday: Groove to the beats of Hip Hop and RnB (courtesy of INNO).
Thursday: Surrender to the rhythm of Techno (Metto Thursdays by PNNY).
Sunday: Embark on a Techno journey (528HZ).
Please note: On these days, the experience takes center stage, so be sure to dress the part and be prepared to immerse yourself in the captivating energy.

Good Places To Pre-Drink.
After my move to Bali, I embarked on a quest to discover those elusive middle ground spots - the kind of places that strike the perfect balance between a mellow evening and a full-blown night out. These are the hidden gems where you can soak in great vibes for a relaxed hangout or gear up with some pre-drinks before diving into the lively scene.
Here's my selection of the finest spots to kickstart your night out in Bali:
La Brisa:
La Brisa continues to secure its place in this guide, reaffirming its uniqueness. As previously highlighted, La Brisa is more than just a relentless party scene. It's where you find a harmonious blend of chill DJ sounds, tantalizing cocktails, the caress of the ocean breeze, and a culinary experience that's nothing short of extraordinary.
This beach club encapsulates a bohemian atmosphere, rendering it a prime destination for savoring drinks while basking in the breathtaking sunset panorama. In essence, La Brisa is an idyllic sanctuary where relaxation and sensory delight converge, making it a must-visit for any night out in Bali.
Daisy's
@isabellebaxter
Daisy's Instagram bio succinctly declares its mission: "Building A Community Through Drinks," and indeed, that's precisely the endeavor they're immersed in.
Step into this cozy enclave, and you'll feel as though you've entered a friend's living room, where individuals from distinct circles converge and share drinks in a harmonious camaraderie.
The libations on offer are nothing short of superb, and on occasion, culinary delights grace the scene. If not, don't fret; you're welcome to savor your takeaway pizza from the neighboring establishment within Daisy's laid-back confines.
At Daisy's, deals and promotions are a constant, an enticing reason to stay tuned to their Instagram feed and stories, ensuring you don't miss out on any enticing offers. This unassuming yet welcoming space is an embodiment of community-building over beverages, making it a standout gem in Bali's nightlife landscape.

Luigi's experiences an exhilarating rush on Mondays, drawing in a vibrant crowd. Yet, from Tuesday through Sunday, the ambiance at Luigi's takes a more laid-back turn. Amidst this relaxed atmosphere, patrons can relish in the delights of good music, expertly crafted cocktails, and, in my personal view, the finest pizzas Canggu has to offer.

The cocktails here are both delectable and thoughtfully priced, adding to the allure. A symphony of lively Latin melodies envelops the atmosphere, harmonizing with the vibrant crowd, creating an irresistible aura for pre-drinks at the bar.

This delightful experience presents an enticing proposition: with every taco you indulge in, a complimentary margarita is bestowed upon you. It's an invitation to embrace the fiesta and revel in both flavors and rhythms that Lola's embodies.

A fresh addition to Canggu's scene is the enchanting Peachy Rooftop, nestled conveniently next door to Lola's. This glamorous rooftop haven offers a panoramic vantage point over the renowned Shortcut.
At Peachy, you'll be delighted to discover an array of refreshingly affordable cocktails, with prices starting from a mere 50,000 rupiah. And if you're planning a visit on a Saturday, an extra treat awaits: ladies can revel in complimentary drinks, adding a touch of allure to your weekend escapades.

Last Tips From Me.
Apps to Download.
When planning your night out, transportation is a must. Fortunately, Indonesia has you covered with two essential apps: Grab and Gojek. These platforms provide convenient options for both car and, even more efficient, bike rides. I recommend Gojek, which I find to be particularly effective and it's a local enterprise, which is always a positive note. You can download the Gojek app via the link provided below and ensure a seamless and reliable travel experience throughout your night out.
An important additional note to consider: While hailing taxis and bikes directly from the roadside might seem convenient, it's crucial to be aware that the prices in such cases are often significantly inflated, sometimes even tripled. Moreover, the safety factor diminishes as these rides won't be tracked like they are through apps like Gojek and Grab. Prioritizing your safety and ensuring a fair price are key reasons why utilizing the official ride-hailing apps is strongly recommended.
Money
Unlike many Asian countries, it's worth noting that every club in Bali accepts card payments. This convenience eliminates the need to carry excessive cash, ensuring a hassle-free night out. You'll primarily require cash for tips. While service charges and wages in Bali are notably low, I encourage you to exhibit generosity when possible, particularly for excellent service, and settle this gratuity in cash.
Furthermore, it's essential to understand that the tax is calculated separately and added to the final bill upon checkout. Unlike some places where prices include tax, in Bali, the tax is an additional charge. This distinction means that the final amount you pay during checkout might be slightly higher than the listed prices on the menu. Being aware of this tax addition will help you budget more accurately and avoid any surprises when settling the bill.
Dress Code
In Bali, the dress code is generally laid-back and straightforward. However, there are a few important considerations to keep in mind. While there aren't rigid regulations, it's recommended that men refrain from wearing sandals and shorts. Similarly, for women, it's advised to avoid sliders or casual sandals, but wearing heeled sandals fine.
An exception to this general guideline is Old Man's, which leans towards a more laid-back vibe and is often frequented by backpackers. At Old Man's, the dress code is considerably more lenient, allowing for a diverse range of attire.
Substances
As with many Asian countries, the legal framework in Bali is stringent and carries severe consequences for transgressions. It's essential to recognize the gravity of this reality. In certain instances, penalties may extend to the extreme, including the possibility of the death penalty.
This crucial reminder is especially pertinent when it comes to partying in Bali. While you might encounter offers or situations that seem tempting, it's paramount to prioritize your safety and well-being over momentary indulgence. The potential risks far outweigh any perceived benefits. Keeping this awareness at the forefront of your mind will help you make responsible choices and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience during your time in Bali.
To sum it up.
Bali's reputation as a nightlife haven is well-deserved, promising unforgettable nights that live up to its name. However, for a truly memorable Bali night out, consider venturing beyond the well-trodden path of renowned establishments and seek out the hidden gems that await. By exploring these lesser-known treasures, you open the door to a unique and authentic experience that is sure to leave an indelible mark on your memories. Embrace the allure of the unknown and discover the enchanting secrets that Bali's nightlife has to offer – a journey that promises rich rewards and unforgettable moments.
