Madagascar 3 week road trip itinerary!
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
💰CURRENCY - Malagasy Ariary (MGA). This is an extremely volatile currency, and so you will be able to pay in some places in Euro or US Dollars (but not everywhere). It is better to take EUR or USD with you. You should also be able to withdraw local currency easily from ATMs as long as you inform your bank before you go
🗣LANGUAGE - Malagasy. French is widely spoken, and English is becoming more common.
🥐FOOD - Malagasy food has many influences, including French, Indian, Chinese and East African (Swahili Coast). Vegetarians will not struggle, but for vegans it is quite difficult because of the French influence. Many foods contain cheese, cream, milk etc. Rice and vegetables are usually on offer, as well as some Asian style soups, noodles, and pizzas (which can be served with no cheese). Because roads are difficult, it is not easy to transport food around the country so the availability of certain fruits and vegetables usually depends on what is in season.
