The Food Valley- Slow Food and Fast Cars

I recently went up to Modena to celebrate with friends.

It was a special occasion so this was a real treat.

Modena

Massimo Bottura and Lara Gimore's new hotel

It is a splurge, but so special.

This is really an oasis of peace. We didn't get to enjoy all the grounds had to offer. Included in the price of the hotel is also access to the villa "kitchen" where you can help yourself all day. Be sure to book dinner here. The restaurant is in the old stables and features dishes no longer served in the Osteria Francescana. It is a single sitting and a real experience. I have been to the Osteria as well, but this is so indepth in the experience,, which you don't get eating at the Osteria, The Osteria has a different menu, so we went to both. Since the hotel restaurant was only the tasting menu with the wine pairing. We ate alla carte at the Osteria. The breakfast buffet was also incredible and allow time to savor and enjoy and eat your way through this as well. Both sweet and savory baked onsite. Traditional dishes. They also do a brunch which is open to the public on Sunday. In Summer, it's held early evening as it's so hot. Live music, wood burning ovens and fusion food by the chefs.

Osteria Francescana

The world's most famous restaurant. It's tiny so hard to get a reservation. I have been for the tasting menu twice, once with the wine pairing and once we did lunch and simply ordered wine by the bottle instead. This trip, we had had the tasting menu with wine at the hotel and simply ordered alla carte and a single bottle of wine. We each had two dishes and were full! I ordered the "magnum" whic is a foie "popsicle" with a balsamic center! it's so rich.
