🇮🇹 Aosta City Guide

🇮🇹 Aosta City Guide

If you want a small city with easy access to some major Alps, Aosta is perfect for you! It’s an easy drive to a gorgeous section of the Italian Alps, including Mont Blanc and tons of castles. This guide gives you everything you need to base your trip in Aosta. Both free and paid sites (and if they’re even worth it), a few hotel ideas, and great restaurants. In this guide, you’ll get: - the major sights with notes on what’s worth seeing and if they need advanced booking - an interactive map to help navigate you to each spot - 6 restaurants at varying price points, 3 hotel suggestions, and both 8 sites to see (mix of free and paid) Before you buy: everything on this list is included in my Four Days in Valle d'Aosta guide, so if you want activity suggestions as well, choose that instead!

Valle d’Aosta is the smallest of Italy’s regions but boasts the biggest mountains!

A car is pretty necessary in region if you want to hike. Buses can get you between towns if that’s your priority, but many of the trail heads are far enough that you need to drive.

I recommend basing your trip in the region’s capital, Aosta. Its a small city centered around the Roman ruins that still stand today. It has great food options, hotels at every price point, and is less than an hour’s drive from any other part of the region.

Another thing worth noting: the temperatures in Aosta won’t reflect temperatures at the peaks, or even midway up! So make sure to bring some warm clothes even in summer.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Amateur Italian, travel advisor, and adventurous eater! I’m a travel creative living in small town northern Italy, and I've been planning travel for over 15 years. I've lived on three continents and visited over 40 countries, so I'm passionate about helping travelers experience the best of a location, no matter where! I love both/and travel: I want to see the big sights AND the local hangouts, the big cities AND the small towns. I’d love to help you do it too! If you’re going to Rome for the first time, you don’t need me to tell you to see the Colosseum. But you might want me to tell you if it’s better as a guided tour or on your own, what add-on’s are worth the money, and what are the extra secret things your ticket can get you! My favorite part of travel is eating well: finding the local haunts, tasting a new wine, and trying the local dishes. Amazing food doesn't have to be expensive: sometimes the best of a place is in the street food! But if it is a splurge, I'll make sure it's worth every penny. I'd love to work with you to create the trip of your dreams!
