Top 5 Restaurants

Sanguan Sri
@polyglotpetra
A restaurant so old my grandparents went on dates here, then took my parents on family dates, and then my parents took me here. Most of the workers are grandparents' age, the vibe is like an old home, and the food is dangerously delicious in the most authentic Thai way possible.

Baan Suriyasai
@polyglotpetra
Built by and for an important family during the reign of King Rama VI, the Suriyasai House has been converted into a food paradise, where you can order insanely delicious, palace-style Thai dishes at the restaurant, or go into the tea shop and sip a cup of coffee with desserts.

Thipsamai Padthai Pratu Phi
@polyglotpetra
Pad Thai, a war-time era noodle dish that has captured the hearts of everyone, was first made here in 1939. Head to this original location, or visit its satellite location on the 6th floor of ICONSIAM mall. I recommend eating at the original location but definitely expect a long wait. I promise it's worth it.

Medium Rare Tha Tian
@polyglotpetra
If you see a long line of Thai people waiting on a sidewalk next to Wat Pho and wonder "What are the locals lining up for?" They're probably waiting for a table at Medium Rare. A Northeastern Thai restaurant, they serve "down-to-earth" northeastern Thai dishes paired with wine, and it's so delicious, we'd stand an hour to get a taste of it. Yup!

THA ARUN
@polyglotpetra
One of the less touristy restaurants by the river that lets you watch Wat Arun light up after sunset, Tha Arun doesn't make fancy fusion menus. What you'll get to eat here is like what a local would get to eat at home, but you get a better view, of course!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hi! I'm Petra! I’m Thai, born and raised. My business is based in the US, but I call Thailand and South Korea my homes and have lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for several months. From my years living in Thailand and my annual 2-month-long visits, I'm especially knowledgeable and up-to-date about Thailand, its trends, and its culture. What are the coolest things to see and do (not necessarily the most touristy ones!), where are the best places to find authentic food (places that say "authentic" are out of the question), and which hotels have the best service... I can give you all these insider-level tips! I've lived in the US since 2015. As a digital nomad, I don't have a city or state that I'm based in, but I know LA especially well having lived there permanently for 8 years. Another of my expertise is South Korea, Seoul specifically, and Korean culture and history in general. Having grown up learning the language and visiting so often (14 times and counting), I can comfortably count Seoul as my second home. And I can confidently give you the best insider tips to Seoul just as well as Thailand! My travel style is culture-based. I love having deep connections with the local culture and people wherever I visit. So you won't find beach clubs or nightclubs much among my recommendations. Basically, if it is something you can see and experience at home, I'm not recommending it!
