Looking for some ideas for your next possible visit to Montana? Checkout the spots we vistited along our route which included popular destinations like Bozeman, Missoula, Glacier National Park, and Flathead Lake. 

Western Montana Road Trip 

While some may be upset with the quick growth of size, Bozeman offers a little bit of everything and is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, hubs for Yellowstone National Park. 

The town has a small town but big city feel and is nestled right next to some of Montana's most beautiful spots. Bring your dog as it is very dog friendly!

We didn't venture into downtown here, but we heard amazing things about the city that once used to be a gold mining town and later one of the United State's biggest copper supplier.

This small Montana mining town was once know for it's saphires. Now, Phillipsburg is a great in between stopping point between Bozeman and Missoula and offers a variety of local shops, breweries, wineries and restaurants. 

Another big up and coming city. Definitely worth checking out if you are nearby. Everything you could ever need and their cute downtown area overlooking the mountains is a perfect place for a bite to eat and a cold beverage. 

Explore nearby hiking trails and walk all around the city with their awesome trail system. 

We were limited here because the city is NOT dog friendly. Around five years ago a ban of dogs on patio areas was put into effect and now only one or two places (privately owned) allow dogs. 

Do yourself a favor and next time you're in Montana put this National Park at the top of your list. Located near Kalispell, you can stock up on everything you need and make the short 30 minute drive Glacier.

We were limited to two days here, but even with such little time we were able to get the Glacier experience. 

There are quite a few campgrounds in the park, but many of them limit the size of vehicle. Book well in advance or you'll have hope look for last second cancellation spots like we did. 

Everyone and their mom says YOU HAVE to do the Going to the Sun Road. We agree, but keep in mind that this road is limited to 21 feet length vehicles and you will need a permit before making the drive up. 

If you have a large vehicle like us, don't worry! There are shuttles everyday and can get you wherever you want to go. Get in line early!

First Shuttle starts at 7am. We got there around 6:40am and waiting till nearly 8 before getting scooped up. If you don't get on one of the first four or five shuttles (these take you to Logan Pass where the Highline trail begins) you will have to get on one of their bigger more frequent stopping shuttles which will cost you some time. 

Formed some 12,000 years ago, Flathead Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the Western US. This is a very popular lake, but with it's size there is always space to get in the water.

There is limited spots to camp in the area, so if you're planning a trip book your spots in advance. We were lucky to snag a couple nights to enjoy the lake.
