Location and Sights of Interest

Nazare is a small town in Portugal, renowned for its breathtaking coastline and, more recently, its giant waves. From October to March, Nazare hosts the Big Wave Challenge, attracting the world’s most fearless surfers to tackle waves towering up to 30 meters high. This event draws over 40,000 spectators annually, making it a spectacle not to be missed.

To reach Nazare, it’s about a 1-hour drive from Lisbon, either by rental car or bus. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the town’s stunning vistas and vibrant atmosphere.

The Town

Nazare is a quaint coastal town with two main beaches. The iconic Praia do Norte is where you’ll find the legendary big waves near Forte S. Miguel de Arcanjo. A short 5-minute walk from the parking lot, there’s a small entrance fee of 2 euros to access the fort, offering a mesmerizing view of the powerful ocean waves crashing against the cliffs.
