Sorrento

Sorrento, though not actually part of the Amalfi coast, is a common base for people wanting to explore the different towns along the coast. Truth be told, I had pretty low expectations going into Sorrento...but it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip! The main drag (called "Corso Italia") is really cute with nice shops and street performers.

As someone who actually lives in Italy, I was innately aware of how "curated" most of the coast felt. Don't get me wrong, it is all VERY pretty...but I could definitely tell that the towns had been designed around the tourist experience. Sorrento, on the other hand, feels a bit more authentic to me.

It's also notably more affordable than most other locations along the coast so if you're balling on a budget you might want to consider setting up camp in Sorrento.
