Coffee Walks in Newport Beach
1. The Boardwalk + Newport Coffee Co.
Park in the pay lot and pick up your coffee at Newport Coffee Co. Head out onto the pier to watch the surfers at Blackie’s or head down the boardwalk that runs along the beach. About two miles to the south is the Balboa Pier, but you could turn back around whenever you please. If you head north, the boardwalk ends relatively soon at 36th Street. Be sure to treat yourself to Seaside Donuts afterwards!
2. KIT Coffee + Castaways Loop
Grab your latte at Kit Coffee and cross Westcliff Drive at the crosswalk. Head towards Dover Drive and cross Dover at the light. There, just to the right, you’ll find the Castaways loop. The loop starts out shaded with a gated neighborhood to your right and another neighborhood to your left. At the curve, you get unreal views of the Upper Newport Bay. Continue out to the statue at the point before looping back. You can either return the way you came or walk along Dover Drive.
3. Coffee Dose + Back Bay
Coffee dose is a whole vibe. Pick up your “anti-bitch serum” and either walk or drive to the Back Bay Interpretive Center (parking available). The trail is part of a 10 mile loop that is popular with runners and bikers, but you can turn back whenever you’ve gotten your fill. You can head towards Jamboree or take the trail back along Irvine Avenue. I recommend the Jamboree route for great views of the Upper Newport Bay, but the flowers on the Irvine route are gorgeous after a rainy spring and you might even being able to see snow capped mountains on a clear day.
4. Java Café + Balboa Island
Park at Java Café and grab your beverage a choice. Cross at the light to get onto Balboa Island. At the far end of the bridge, you’ll see steps on your right down to a boardwalk. Follow it around the perimeter of the island for a great walk. You’ll see the Balboa Island Ferry, the teddy bear house and lots of Christmas decorations if you go during the holidays. When you are towards the final stretch of the loop, you’ll come across a bridge on Park Ave. to Little Balboa. The boardwalk continues on the smaller island if you want to extend your walk.
5. Reborn Coffee + Big & Little Corona
This requires a brief drive after you grab your morning coffee from Reborn on PCH. Head over towards Big Corona (Corona del Mar State Beach). Don't worry about parking down in the lot. Stay up high and park anywhere on Ocean Blvd. Then, walk the length of Ocean Blvd, taking a stop at Inspiration Point. Head down the path here if you want to get some hills in for extra cardio. It's worth another downhill trek to Little Corona, a smaller beach at the very southern end of Ocean Blvd. Explore the tidepools before climbing back up to your car.
