Tips for Staying Fit While Abroad

Use What You Already Pay For...
Getting a workout in while traveling doesn't have to be complicated. One of our favorite tips is to make use of what you already have! Do you subscribe to a fitness app or pay for a membership to a fitness studio? Check out what on-the-go options are available from your current memberships. We personally make use of our Tonal subscription by using the on-the-go options. Tonal offers vacation-focused quick bodyweight workouts on their app that can be accessed anywhere! Does your gym offer universal memberships? If so, see if your travel destination has a location and make use of your familiar regimen. Popular studios that offer universal memberships in the US include OrangeTheory Fitness and Burn Boot Camp. Some other options include: Peloton app, The Sculpt Society app, Sweat app, Nike Training Club app (free!), Lululemon Studio app, and more!
Make Fitness Part of the Activities!
Are you worried you'll waste too much precious trip time getting a workout in? Not so fast! A great way to stay active and optimize your time exploring is to maximize your time on foot. Is there a walkable coffee shop nearby? Can you plan your accommodations to be in a walkable area? Are there walking tours that cover your must-see spots? Maybe there are bikes you can rent instead of taking an Uber? Plan a scenic hike or a swim! Workouts don't always have to be conventional. Finding ways to just move your body can make all the difference. We love to track our steps while exploring. Currently, I have been using this super affordable fitness band (Amazfit Band 5). I love the sleek look of it, how user friendly it is, and the super long battery life.
Get Creative!
Travel inspires all of us to break out of our comfort zones. Channel this energy into trying something new! Does your resort offer a yoga or pilates class? Is there a fitness studio nearby that offers first timers a free pass? Take the opportunity to breakaway from your normal fitness style and try something different. You may just find your new favorite thing! On our last trip to South Africa, our Safari camp offered a yoga class overlooking the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, and it was absolutely magical. Yoga isn't something I typically incorporate into my fitness routine, but the change of pace was surprisingly enjoyable and made me remember just how important stretching is.
Stay Inspired & Get Exploring!
I hope these tips help you realize just how easy incorporating fitness into your travel plans can be! Don't overcomplicate it and just get moving. Let the excitement of something new inspire you. Happy travels everyone!
