California's Pacific Coast Highway--My Dream Finally Came True
Rhonda Glisson (Time Travel)
From the time I fell in love with the Beach Boys music, I have been an ocean loving girl. I longed to go to the California coast and live the life, surfing, and lying on the beach all day. But growing up in the Southern part of the United States that never was to be. I never lost either my love of the beach/ocean or my desire to see the California coast, but it was a long, LONG time before I could make that dream come true. But finally I did, and believe me, it was all I hoped and imagined it would be.
I traveled the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco to Pismo Beach exploring every little place that looked fun, interesting or just spectacularly scenic. As you can imagine--I stopped a LOT. In this guide I will share with you all of the wonderful places I discovered. You too can live the dream. I also include many of the photos I took at each place.

Bixby Bridge Vista
@rhondaglisson
Bixby Bridge is one of the highest bridges of its kind in the world, and soars 260 feet above the bottom of a steep canyon carved by Bixby Creek. Loving photography this was a must do stop for me. The bridge alone is incredible, but the view along this Big Sur coastline is nothing short of breathtaking.

Point Pinos Lighthouse
@rhondaglisson
Point Pinos is the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast, in operation since 1855. I arrived too late in the afternoon to find the gates open, but was able to grab some great photos from outside the fences.

McWay Falls
@rhondaglisson
You get to this gorgeous 80ft waterfall by taking Waterfall Overlook Trail at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. It's a short, easy walk to the overlook. It's located in Big Sur in Monterey County. The view of the waterfall along with this magnificent coast is just stunning.

Pfeiffer Beach
@rhondaglisson
This is a gorgeous day use beach that is VERY hard to find if you don't have an inside tip (like we had) or great directions....I am including just that with this guide. If you can, go at high tide so you can see the water coming through the rocks. Talk about your photo ops--WOW.

Whale Watching in Monterey Bay
@rhondaglisson
I can't say enough about going out with this company, they were FANTASTIC. They quickly found Fin Whales, Blue Whales, seals, Risso dolphins, even an Albatross on the fly by. If you love whales and want to go see them up close and personal, don't pass this up.

Lone Cypress
@rhondaglisson
The famous Lone Cypress Tree on Seventeen Mile Drive in Pebble Beach. This is a stop you won't want to miss. Standing atop a granite headland overlooking Carmel Bay, the tree has become a Western icon and has been called one of the most photographed trees in North America.

PIER 39
@rhondaglisson
If you get tired from walking the piers of San Francisco, and would like to take a break, head on over to Pier 39 and be entertained by the California Sea Lions. They are highly entertaining as they vie for positions on floating docks. Fussing, fighting, and playing, it's a fun way to take a break.

Alcatraz Island
@rhondaglisson
If you do nothing else while you are in this area (San Francisco) you will NOT want to miss a trip to Alcatraz. As well as having this famous prison there is also an incredible amount of history on this island. Many famous, or probably infamous, criminals were housed here at one time. The vibes inside are certainly solemn. Definitely worth the price of admission. Beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge from the water are not to be missed.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rhonda Glisson (Time Travel)
I am a traveler who loves to research and a researcher who loves to travel. I spend untold hours, days and even weeks researching my next destination. I pick destinations that peak my interest--most are ocean or wildlife related. One was taking off to Churchill, MB, at the bottom of the Arctic Circle, for the annual Beluga Whale migration--all by myself. That's just me, I do most of my traveling solo. I also love photography and have my camera with me every step of the way. I spent most of my life living in Georgia, but now I live in the gorgeous Ozark Mountains of Arkansas.
