8 Best Things To Do In Lijiang, China
If you’re travelling to China, having a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is essential to access most websites and apps, such as Google, Instagram, Whatsapp and Youtube, without restrictions. I have personally used Astrill VPN for years and can highly recommend it for its reliability, fast speeds and excellent customer service. 1. Old Town of Lijiang
2. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
An absolute highlight of Lijiang is Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Also known as Yulong Snow Mountain, it’s truly an awe-inspiring experience. I recommend booking this tour below – it includes pick up from your hotel, transport to the mountain and around other attractions including Blue Moon Valley.
The temperature at the top can get very cold, so remember to wear warm clothes. The stunning views are absolutely unforgettable.
3. Blue Moon Valley
Just at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain lies Blue Moon Valley, and it’s every bit as magical as it sounds. This location is included in the previously mentioned tour. You can easily spend a long time here, soaking in the scenery, capturing photos of the crystal clear waters that mirror the sky. It really feels like paradise.
4. Shuhe Ancient Town
The stone bridges and canals reminded me of Lijiang, but felt more laid back. I actually visited here on Chinese New Year’s Day, usually a day to spend with family, but all of the locals were still so welcoming. Here you can find craftsmen creating everything from silver jewellery to traditional Naxi textiles.
5. Black Dragon Pool
The reflection of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the Black Dragon Pool is iconic, and the small pavilions and bridges add to the charm. It’s a photographer’s dream spot, and it’s actually not been busy both times I visited!
6. Jade Water Village
I visited Jade Water Village with a new local friend. I hadn't heard of it because it isn't usually on itineraries for Lijiang! It’s a bit further away from the city, but I really enjoyed my time here and learning about the God of the Naxi people.
7. Lion Hill
Lion Hill is located on the outskirts of the Old Town. You can see the rooftops of the Old Town, stretching out towards the surrounding mountains. It’s the perfect spot to appreciate the beauty of this incredible city.
8. Baisha Old Town
Baisha Old Town is another quieter, more relaxed alternative to Lijiang’s bustling Old Town. I enjoyed wandering around, chatting with locals, and sitting in the cute cafes for hours. It’s a great place to learn more about the traditions that have shaped the region.
