Tips before traveling (female travel edition)

Thanks to the welcoming locals in PV, solo female travelers will always find a friendly face. And with the lively tourist areas by the ocean, the surroundings are quite safe! I never felt unsafe walking around solo, even when hiking up to the lookout point!

Getting Around the City

Puerto Vallarta is a very walkable city with the main tourist attractions all in close proximity! If needed, the bus is also an easy and navigable option, costing just 10 pesos! Just make sure to have exact change, as they don't accept cash!

Areas to Avoid At Night

1. Marina Vallarta district

2. Anything outside of the hotel zone

I’ve personally never experienced any sort of safety concern at night; I stayed just outside of the Old Town.

Soy Local Hotel- 7/10

- this hotel was in a great location if you are looking for a cheaper option than staying right on the beach- close to the Old Town (20 minute walk)

- pool and bar plus breakfast included, have 24/7 front desk

- it is very loud at night from parties outside (so beware if you are light sleeper)

Travel Itinerary

Morning: Kickstart your morning by watching the sunrise from your hotel or by walking around the town! Don't forgot to enjoy free breakfast from your hotel or find a local coffee shop! Most coffee shops around the area of Soy Local open around 7am!

Mid-Morning: Head down to the Centro where the main attractions, boardwalk and beach is! Walk around and see the iconic sculptures, and beaches! Don't miss out in trying La Tuba which is one of the most traditional drinks in the state of Jalisco.

Afternoon: Time for some local cuisine! Head over to Zona Romántica for some fantastic eats! A good spot is Burros Bar & Restaurant or if you happen to go on a Saturday across the street from this restaurant is a market called Olas Altas Market!
