Everything you need for a visit to Canggu; one of the most incredible places in the world & and a place I call home.
☝️ Be sure to explore all these places on the map by tapping the mapping icon in the upper right corner.
By the end of this Guide, if you are not set on going to Canggu, then I've clearly not done my job. Canggu is one of the most incredible places in the world. Sure, it is not exactly the getaway that it used to be, it has become quite busy. But there are always benefits to busyness.
That starts right here with the food....
Canggu Cafes
Canggu has a ton of breakfast spots and cafes. Many of these serve lunch & dinner too.
Canggu Dinner & Drinks
Canggu has so many great spots to eat & drink at during the day and into the evening. These are my favorites.
As I said earlier, food is one of the main reasons I love Canggu, but there are a few other reasons to visit this incredible place (or move here, like me)...
Nightlife
If a night out on the town is your thing, Canggu is a great place for it. You can grab drinks at pretty much any restaurant in Canggu, but there are two main bars that get really busy.
The most popular bar in all of Canggu, this spot is located right on Batu Bolong Beach. Many people will end their nights here starting anywhere from 9-11 after having dinner elsewhere. It usually stays open until about 1am.
After 1am, everyone will make their way down to the beach for a late-night party on the sand. There is usually a DJ on the beach.
Definitely have at least one of these nights during your stay in Canggu. It's definitely a fun night out. I've had some very memorable nights here. You'll meet a lot of new people.
One of the main attractions in Canggu is the Tanah Lot Temple. It's a beautiful Balinese temple that sits right on a rock on a cliff allowing the water to flow underneath it. It's very beautiful and gets very busy at sunset. If you want to avoid the crowds, I recommend visiting for sunrise.
Make sure you try some of the corn on the cob that's sold there. It's salted and is super delicious. If you visit at sunrise though, I'm not sure if they'll be selling it that early.
This beach is perfect for beginners to surf at. You can rent a board from one of the locals on the beach for about $4-$5/hour. They typically have longboards which are better for beginners. You can even hire many of the locals to teach you, which isn't a bad option because it's not one of those sports where you can just stand up and get going. It helps to learn the technique, and the locals are good for that.
If you want to have a full surf-school experience, you can stay at a place like Mondo Surf School. They supply boards and lessons with your stay. Otherwise, you can just stay at a regular hotel and rent boards from one of the locals on the beach.
After one hour at this cross fit gym, you'll be knackered. It's a great place to go to get a workout in, and feel like you're totally good for the rest of the day because you've burnt out all your excess calories. The classes are suitable for beginners because they're always taught from a learner's perspective, but even if you're advanced in cross fit, you'll still get a great workout in.
It's a bit expensive, but most gyms in Bali are. Classes are 250,000 IDR for a drop-in session and 1,800,000 IDR for unlimited monthly classes.
Body Factory is a beautiful gym with great facilities and a spa area. It's bit expensive, like most gyms in Bali at 250,000 IDR for a drop in session and 1,650,000 IDR for a month pass.

💻 Canggu Coworking Spaces
If you're coming to Bali for a long-term stay or need to get some work done, coworking spaces are great places for coffee, food, & guaranteed high-speed wifi with a community of expats & digital nomads.
Dojo is the most popular coworking space in Canggu. The rates are quite high - for some packages they charge almost $200/month. Daily rates are $20/day though, so if you're just looking to drop in for the day for some really fast internet, Dojo is a great option. I've heard Dojo has the fastest internet on the island. You can upload an entire Youtube video in about 5 minutes here. It can get busy though, so if you're looking for a quiet space to work, this might not be the place for you.
If you don't want to deal with Dojo being super busy, Outpost is a quieter and cheaper alternative, though it's internet may not be as fast.

☝️ If you aren't looking to work from a coworking space, most hotels in Canggu have pretty fast wifi. I'm not going to be sharing a ton about accommodations in this guide, but with any accommodation you book, I recommend looking at the reviews of the hundreds of people who have stayed there before you. I find that the feedback system is fantastic, and it's very rare that I've stayed somewhere that I've been unhappy with.
For some more information on being a digital nomad in Bali, check out my blog post below
Some of the best accommodations I've stayed at have been booked with Airbnb or Agoda. You can browse through and find something that fits what you're looking for.
Sedasa is a combination guest house & hotel. I like that it feels smaller and personal. The staff are incredibly nice. The food that is included for breakfast is fantastic, and the location is one of the best. So if you want something that's in that mid-tier budget, even a bit on the cheaper end, check out Sedasa.
If you book through the link I've provided, I get a small percentage of your booking without any additional cost to you.
D'wina Canggu is in the $80-$100/night range. It is a villa that I quite liked. I stayed here for 5 days to film a travel guide in a beautiful place. I will say though, that the wifi was horrible and unreliable, so if that's important to you, maybe don't stay here.
This spot is perfect if you're with a group to split the cost. It's around $325 USD/night ($54 USD per person).

Getting Around
I highly recommend hiring a scooter to get around Canggu. There are lots of options available, whether you hire through your accommodation or just find a rental store.
They shouldn’t ask for your passport like they do in other Southeast Asia locations.
They may want to see your driver’s license, so have that with you.
This company offers delivery to your front door. However, it’s worth checking if your accommodation offers scooter hire - commonly it can be cheaper this way.
I hope this guide helps you make the most of this small piece of paradise. It’s a great Hub for work, food, meeting people, nightlife; basically offers the full spectrum. It’s also a great home base for travel within Bali or outside of it.
