Johor Series: Batu Pahat Half-Day Trip Itinerary
Batu Pahat
It is the second largest city in the state of Johor after the city of Johor Bahru. Batu Pahat is one of the state’s most well-known industrial towns, with the manufacturing sector providing the bulk of economic activities.
Food processing, textiles, electronics, plastic, porcelain, and timber are some of the main industries in the district. Agriculture is also another important source of resources for Batu Pahat, with several of the largest plantations in the state bearing rubber, palm oil, coconut, and cocoa, while fruit plantations are also aplenty.
Han Kee Cake & Cafe
Every visit calls for their mouthwatering ham and egg toast bread. They are soft and fluffy! I am not an "Otak-Otak" fan, but it's a must-try in this kopitiam aka the local coffee shop. It can be pretty crowded during breakfast and afternoon-tea time, so make sure to go at the correct time.
Wooden Box
The building has a charming all-wood interior, and you might have walked passed it due to its modest shopfront! As soon as you step in, you'll be greeted by the sight of three wooden windows 🪟 with sunlight casting beautiful shadows.
Though it may not look grand from the outside, the interior is spacious and gorgeous! 💕 The ambiance is super cozy and a touch of natural warmth. Their Earl Grey cheesecake and chili oil-tossed noodles, and were pretty good!
*note: There's a minimum spending per person, but it's quite worth it!
Da Bei Shui Kopitiam 大杯水曼煎糕
You have to try Apam Balik when you're in Batu Pahat. Apam Balik also known as Martabak Manis, is a crispy and fluffy sweet Malaysian dessert. It is usually filled with roasted peanuts, sugar, creamy sweet corn, and butter and folded in half. This famous stall sold Apam Balik for RM9/plate.
*note: To avoid queuing, you can also call ahead to make a reservation!
Family Pastry Shop 芳龄西点蛋糕
Family Kedai Kek & Roti, or Family Pastry Shop (芳邻西点蛋糕), is a chain of pastry shops that sells a wide variety of cakes, breads and pastries. It has several outlets in Batu Pahat, Parit Raja and Yong Peng, all within Batu Pahat District. The bakery, known as Family Kerk Bakery, is located in Sri Gading.
Their signature Ogura Cake is a must-try! Fine texture, very spongy, and is almost like a chiffon cake but with much smaller air pockets.🤤Very Delicious!
*note: Special promotion if you buy 2 boxes and above, each will be RM8.50 (original price at RM14). It's perfect to give as souvenir too!
Ssanren Studio
This street exudes a nostalgic vibe, adorned with fairy lights, rows of wooden chairs, and historical photos on the walls. It's a perfect spot for vintage-style photos with friends! 📸 Every shot turns out great! 💯There will be some pop-up market occasionally, check out their Facebook or Instagram page for more updates!
Batu Pahat has blossomed with cafes and photo-worthy places.💖 It's such a lovely town and it definitely needs more people to discover the beauty in it✨.
