Fly into Fairbanks.

Day 1: Chena Hot Springs Resort

Here you can enjoy the hot springs, visit the ice museum, and do all the winter activities: cross country skiing, snow shoeing, dog sledding, ice fishing, etc.

The rooms are basic and on the older side. The food is also basic with large portion sizes.

We only stayed one night here because we had most of our winter activities planned at the next stop.

Day 2: Chena to Fairbanks

Spend the morning at Chena Hot Springs then in the afternoon head to Fairbanks. You can visit the Museum of the North and go to Black Spruce Brewery.

Day 3-4: Borealis Basecamp

3D/2N package or if you can do 4D/3N package.

Stay in the igloos or the cubes, both are incredible. Here you can do all the winter activities: dog sledding, snow machine tour, snow tubing, shoe shoeing, cross country skiing, and more. Hopefully you will get to see the Aurora Borealis from your bed! (They will ring to wake you up if the northern lights are out!)

The cubes are new and so nice! The food is exceptional.

Day 5: Borealis to Fairbanks

Transfer back to Fairbanks, spend the night here before catching an early train the next day.

Day 6: Aurora Winter Train

8:30am-8:15pm train ride to Anchorage

Absolutely beautiful train ride through Alaska. The conductor will announce animal sightings. There is a dining car. (My recommendation: eat breakfast and lunch on the train and plan for a late dinner in Anchorage)

Dinner: Whiskey & Ramen

Stay: Hotel Captain Cook

(Plan your trip around the train schedule. The train only runs Southbound on Sundays, until mid February when it also runs on Wednesdays, then mid March also on Fridays too)

Day 7: Anchorage

Explore anchorage.

Breakfast: Snow City Cafe

Dinner: Moose's Tooth

Stay: Hotel Captain Cook

Day 8: Matanuska Glacier Hike

Full day tour: 8:30am-5:30pm. Spend 2-3 hours trekking on the glacier, then have lunch at a lodge with glacier view.

Dinner: 49th State Brewing

Stay: Hotel Captain Cook
