7-Day West Georgia Itinerary: Sea, Tea, & Monasteries

7-Day West Georgia Itinerary: Sea, Tea, & Monasteries

Some of the most affordable flights into Georgia actually land in Kutaisi in the west of the country. And many people just jump straight on a bus to head to Tbilisi. โœจ๏ธ Get 20% off our Wine & Mountains East Georgia itinerary through Tbilisi, Kazbegi and Telavi when you buy this itinerary! Promo code inside. โœจ๏ธ BUT, the west of Georgia is a beautiful part of the country that you should not miss! After spending six months travelling to almost every corner of Georgia, I have put together this itinerary which will take you to Georgia's second and third cities, UNESCO monasteries, Soviet cable cars, tea plantations (who knew?!), and the Black Sea Coast. This detailed itinerary gives you info on things to do, where to eat, how to travel around on local transport (and a more comfortable alternative), as well as recommendations on accommodation to make sure that you are based in the best areas. AND, at the end, are practical and useful things to know before you travel to Georgia: best ATM without withdrawal fees for foreign cards, SIM card provider, taxi apps, must-learn Georgian phrases. This guide is adventure and foodie based, with a budget travel focus. But, there are also a couple of fancier options too. This itinerary covers: ๐Ÿ“Kutaisi โ›ช๏ธ ๐Ÿ“Chiatura ๐Ÿš  ๐Ÿ“Ozurgeti ๐Ÿต ๐Ÿ“Batumi ๐ŸŒŠ And if you also fancy heading over to Tbilisi, or spending two weeks in Georgia, you could bolt on our East Georgia itinerary focusing on mountains and wine!

When to Visit West Georgia?

For this route through Kutaisi and ending up at the Black Sea Coast in Batumi, I recommend visiting in April/May or September/October. At this time the weather will be a little milder but still pleasant for hiking, sitting at the beach etc.

June, July, August will have great weather also, however, particularly Batumi can get very crowded at this time of year with locals, as this is the main area in the country with access to the sea.

Day 1: Kutaisi

Day 2: Day Trip from Kutaisi

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hey! I'm Sam, and Chris and I are a couple of vegetarian foodies who have travelled through the Caucasus and Asia for over two years. We are in love with Georgia and Armenia, travelling off the beaten path, and finding local vegetarian food options. I can help you with vegetarian foodie recommendations, practical tips to manoeuvre the local transport system, city guides, itineraries, and general queries about the region. I find that travel is best when experiencing a place as a local, so I will always recommend local guesthouses, local restaurants, local transport if it's possible, but also give alternatives to depend on your travel taste. The Caucasus seems to still be off the typical tourist trail, and it really is such a beautiful corner of the world that is full of culture, natural beauty, and delicious food. Take a look at my guides and services, and come say hi. I'm sure that you will fall in love with this part of the world too! You can find us on social media platforms as @relentlessroaming
