Intro

Norway sat at the top of my travel bucket list for quite some time. I daydreamed about experiencing its idyllic and untouched natural beauty: a place where sharp, snow-capped peaks fall into deep ocean fjords, a place where alpine lakes, rushing rivers, and massive waterfalls are commonplace, a place with endless trail networks and breathtaking mountain roads. So I decided to spend 5 weeks living and doing a Workaway with my sister in a town called Ørsta. We took care of 6 children for the "work" part of the workaway, and every minute of our free time was spent exploring this mountain paradise. Norway exceeded my expectations and lives in my memories as the most naturally beautiful place I've experienced.

The Transportation

Air Travel

Traveling by plane is definitely the quickest way to travel between large regions of Norway. In western Norway, Ålesund and Bergen will be your biggest airports while Ørsta / Volda is included among the smaller, regional airports. You’ll most likely have to connect through Oslo to get to any smaller airport in Norway if you are traveling in from outside of Scandinavia. The Oslo airport does not close, so crashing for a night before an early morning flight is very doable. The smaller airports often will close at night.
