Exploring Taipei: Travel Guide
Getting there.
Taipei has two international airports- Taoyuan and Songshan. Taoyuan Airport is a bit farther from the city centre than Songshan, however both are well-connected to the city by train and bus.
If flying into Taoyuan airport, I recommend taking the airport MRT to the centre of Taipei (Taipei Main Station) for just $160 NTD. This train ride takes just 35 minutes. Private taxis and Uber can also be booked at the airport.
SIM Cards.
SIM cards can be easily purchased in the arrivals area at both airports. If you prefer to purchase a SIM card ahead of time, you can purchase via Klook and it will be ready for you to pick up when you arrive. E-Sims are also a great option to get connected as soon as you land. My personal favourite e-sim companies are Air Alo and Global YO. Both are available in the Apple & Google app stores.
Currency.
Taiwan uses the New Taiwanese Dollar (NTD.) Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at most hotels, stores, and restaurants. Cash is a must for street vendors and markets. Most ATMs in Taiwan charge $100NTD for a foreign card cash withdrawal. Currency exchanges are available at both airports and Taipei Main Station, as well as some of the larger bank branches and hotels.
