Vegetarian Finds in Savannah: My Honest Takes

Vegetarian Finds in Savannah: My Honest Takes

Rachel Nasser
Savannah is a beautiful place that I have called home for the past couple of years as I studied interior design. It is a place with delicious food and plenty of options for Vegetarians! As a tourist, Google may give you recommendations that are by River Street; however, there are so many other spots that have hidden gems to try instead. With so many options to choose from, allow me to give my honest reviews on the many restaurants Savannah has to offer. I have broken it down between breakfast, lunch and dinner to make it easier! Note: some restaurants are vegetarian-specific, and some have delicious options, so I will cover both! As always, I would love to give further advice if you'd like to dm me on Instagram at Rachel_n12

Breakfast

I'll be honest, breakfast in Savannah is slightly lacking (at least compared to the lunch and dinner options.) If none of the below look appealing, I would recommend going to one of the many coffee shops and grabbing a bite there instead!

Collins Quarter at Forsyth
@rachelnasser
Collins Quarter at Forsyth is a place I bring anyone who comes to visit me! The food and coffee are delicious, and their Forsyth location is nestled inside the beautiful Forsyth park. This would be a perfect place for breakfast or brunch, as they have options for both. Though a tad expensive, I promise the Spiced Lavander Mocha latte is worth it. The avocado toast is a thick slice of bread with a heaping amount of avocado, tomatoes and radishes. They also have a wild mushroom toast that I have not had, but that looks delicious. If you'd like a sweeter choice, their French toast is amazing too:)

Mirabelle Savannah
@rachelnasser
Mirabelle is an adorable cafe with gourmet waffles, such as a Peach Cobbler and Lemon Zinger. The waffles are delicious, though it's important to note that this is pretty much all they have, so another place may be better if you're feeling super hungry!

Franklin's
@rachelnasser
As I mentioned, many of the better places to eat breakfast in Savannah are actually coffee shops. Franklin's is a cute little cafe with delicious coffee and small breakfast options. It can be expensive, but the food is very good. The avocado toast is amazing, as it is topped with whipped burrata and pickled red onions. They also currently have a hummus bowl which would be a great vegetarian option. However, I think their croissant sandwich is one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had! The pimiento aioli is delicious. (A bonus tip: the lavender latte and spicy mocha are also great coffee options)

Lunch

Lunch in Savannah is much easier to find than breakfast. There are many places that have vegetarian options and while I will touch on my favorites here, I've been to many places and would love to give further insight if you'd like to reach out to me personally!

Java Burrito Company
@rachelnasser
Java Burrito is essentially a slightly-elevated Chipotle. You order down the line still, but the options and quality are much better. You can make burritos, quesadillas, bowls, and more! There's a vegan mean you can choose, or simply pack a burrito with a ton of veggies and beans. (Bonus note: they also have eggs if you'd like a breakfast burrito in the morning!)

Kayak Kafé Broughton
@rachelnasser
Kayak kafe is probably the most vegan / vegetarian-friendly restaurant on this list. Full disclosure, the food is expensive, but if you're willing to spend the money, it's very good. They have two locations, but the downtown location is one you'd be able to walk to if you're staying by the river. The salads are big and yummy, my favorite of all time being the vegetarian, which has pita and hummus on top. If you like it, adding the tiger tofu on top is a must. I enjoyed it so much I started making it at home too! (It's basically tofu with a Thai sweet chili sauce marinade). They also have vegan / vegetarian tacos, quesadillas and sandwiches.

Zunzi's
@rachelnasser
Zunzi's is a fun and lively sandwich spot that has many yummy options. The Rising Sun has veggies, hummus, guac, and their delicious sauce! The Johnny Roll is a vegan meatball sub! You can get each sandwich with a side of VooDoo chips, which you must try if you're in Savannah.

Green Truck Neighborhood Pub
@rachelnasser
A bit outside of the business of downtown, the Green Truck has some delicious lunch options at a cool and casual setting (just know you will likely need to drive here if you're staying downtown!) They have many vegetarian options, such as a variety of burgers that can be made with a house-made veggie patty, salads, and my favorite - the veggie Reuban! When I ate meat, Reubans were one of my favorite sandwiches, so I was so delighted to find a place that had a vegetarian version. It's delicious!

Fox and Fig Cafe
@rachelnasser
Fox and Fig is one of my favorite restaurants in Savannah! It is another mostly vegan / vegetarian restaurant that also serves delicious coffee. (Definitely suited for both breakfast or lunch!)

Dinner

Savannah has a ton of amazing dinner options, including many that are maybe a bit fancier than the ones I'm mentioning. Some of the great steak houses and famous southern restaurants (like the Olde Pink House) don't have as many vegetarian options, though you could of course look at their menus and see if there's one or two things you'd like. For this guide, I'm focusing on places that have more than merely a couple options:)

Ruan Thai Cuisine Savannah
@rachelnasser
If you like Thai, this is a great place right on Broughton St. where many of the other stores and other activities are! They have many veggie or tofu options.

Tequila's Town Mexican Restaurant
@rachelnasser
If you're a fan of Mexican, I think this place has the best Mexican in Savannah! The portions are big and they have a ton of authentic options. There are many vegetarian options as well, such as the veggie burrito, quesadilla, and more!

Common Thread
@rachelnasser
As one of the more upscale options on this list, Common Threat is a great option if you want a vegetarian meal that's a little fancier. Common threat is a farm to table restaurant that serves locally sourced foods! They have an entire vegetarian menu, and though limited, serves delicious-sounding options like fried okra with eggplant.

The Grove Savannah
@rachelnasser
The Grove is a multi-level restaurant that turns into a club on weekend nights! They also play live music often and have fun drink options. I wouldn't say the food is the ABSOLUTE best you'll find in Savannah, but it's the perfect place for a night with friends or for sharing appetizers. You can eat on the rooftop and it's just a great and lively atmosphere. Also, the hummus platter and jalapeno drizzle fries are amazing!

La Scala Ristorante
@rachelnasser
If you're looking for Italian, La Scala is romantically set in an old Southern mansion! They have authentic and delicious pastas, and it would be great for a date-night.

The Vault Kitchen & Market
@rachelnasser
The Vault is a cool, Asian fusion restaurant. It is not all vegetarian, but they have a couple very good options!

Flying Monk Noodle Bar
@rachelnasser
If you like ramen, this is a great option! I get mine with egg and tofu, and it's delicious. The tables are a bit crowded inside, so just be warned if this is something that bothers you. Personally, I get it as takeout because they put the broth and noodles separate, and eat it cozied up in bed:)

Coco and Moss
@rachelnasser
As another Asian option, Coco and Moss has really yummy sushi and rice bowls. You can substitute tofu in any of the bowls, which I do with the Bohemian Chickie and it is absolutely delicious!

Tacos+Tequila by Tequila's Town
@rachelnasser
As a more lively and casual Mexican option, Tacos+Tequila is another restaurant with a large variety of small tacos! There are enough vegetarian options that you can still try a couple different kinds:)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rachel Nasser
Hi everyone! I'm Rachel and my time is currently split between Waterford, CT and Savannah GA. I'm currently getting my interior design licensing, while making time for travel whenever possible! Though my cooking skills are lacking, I am a self-proclaimed foodie and try to find the best restaurants wherever I go. While I'm vegetarian, my boyfriend James is a very hungry man who needs more than a mere salad for lunch; therefore, I am continuously on the hunt for restaurants that fit both our needs, hopefully allowing me to help you all as well! I also search for the best coffee shops wherever I go, enjoy art museums, and take part in any adventurous outdoor activity that James can convince me to do:)
