New York City Beer Tour

So much beer, so little time. Here are some of my personal picks of the best craft beer in the city.

Kings County Brewers Collective
@kaylafedeson
Also known as KCBC, I was first drawn in by their colorful and unique beer labels. With a rotating menu including delicious IPAs, sweet, daring, & strong stouts, plus fruity and tart sours, KCBC is a perfect place to go by yourself or with a large group of people. Be sure to grab a slice of pizza at Artichoke before arriving as they allow outside food. All thing considered, this is one of my favorite breweries of all time.

Harlem Hops
@kaylafedeson
Harlem Hops features rare and local craft beers from the northeast on tap and in cans, in addition to brewing some of their own. The first Black-owned brewery in Manhattan has a smaller location in Chelsea at Pier 57, but this location is the original. They have some bar bites, so this is an excellent place to start your night, especially if you want to head across the street to Shrine for amazing live music.

Evil Twin Brewing NYC - DUMBO
@kaylafedeson
Evil Twin has ranked among the top beers in the world, with its headquarters in Denmark. Now the brewery has two locations in NYC and brews locally (the sister location is their Ridgewood taproom if you want a bigger, outdoor space and don't mind traveling a bit further). Their IPAs and stouts are some of the best I've ever had, but my true favorite is the Concrete Jungle, a sour that tastes more like soda than beer. Evil Twin also brews its own seltzer & coffee, in addition to having two solid non-beer frozen drinks to choose from.

SingleCut Beersmiths QNS
@kaylafedeson
It might be a little bit of a walk from the subway, but it is worth it. The taproom here is very spacious, and they have a great selection of beers. Their More Cowbell milk stout is a perfect mix of sweetness and bitterness. Their beers are available all over the city, but nothing beats visiting the actual brewery.

Other Half Brewing Company
@kaylafedeson
Known for its IPA and pastry stouts, Other Half is another award-winning brewery. This original location feels very industrial and Brooklyn, but you can also check them out near Rockefeller Center in Manhattan or Domino Park.

Focal Point Beer Co
@kaylafedeson
Focal Point does basic beers very well. My personal favorite is the amber, but they have a wide variety of lagers and IPAs to choose from. Great from groups both large and small, the taproom has a wide selection of board games and tons of outdoor space when it's nice out. And if you get hungry, place at order next door at Sobremesa Cocina Mexicana and take it back while you keep on tasting their beers.

Torch & Crown Brewing Company
@kaylafedeson
My personal favorite here is the Oktoberfest and seasonal stouts. Torch & Crown has plenty of outdoor space for big groups, as well as a huge taproom inside. One of the first breweries in Manhattan, T&C also has a wide food selection.

And if beer really isn't your thing, you can take a tour to some Long Island wineries or sample the NYC sake scene.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hey there, I'm Kayla! I have lived in New York City for over 10 years and have been traveling the world for more than 15. Through solo travels, those with friends, and group tours, I know firsthand what places you need to see on a trip, as well as those that you should see and may have never heard of. I am a history nerd, nature junkie, and huge sports fan, so my ideal trip combines all three of these things. I love ancient sites and exploring as many around the world as I can, am trying to go to all 400+ United States National Park Sites and all 30 MLB stadiums, and travel every four years for the Women's World Cup. If you are looking for guidance on where to take a short break, longer break, or adventure, I am your go-to. I can make recommendations on where you should look, tell you all of the things you can do in your destination, as well as the things you cannot miss. As I develop this page further, I want to be a resource full of fun facts and personalized recommendations on what you should do and where you should go. I have traveled to 34 US states, plus DC and Puerto Rico, and 38 countries. I've been giving friends my extensive travel guides for free for years, so now it's my turn to share with you. Living off a credit card and minimum wage for the first year in NYC with a ton of curiosity, I had to find ways to do everything on the cheap. I went to pay-what-you-wish nights at museums, found free things to do, and still very rarely do I pay full price for a Broadway show (and if I do, I know how to save at least $10). I can tell you about a lot of fun expensive things, but if you are looking to travel on more of a budget (it's a cruel world out there), I can help with that too. Travel is my passion, but I love rock climbing, softball, running, & reading too.
