Exploring ZURICH: A Layover Adventure
Strolling Through the Old Town
I first decided to take a leisurely stroll through the old part of town, soaking in the rich history and vibrant atmosphere. As I wandered, I was captivated by the sights and sounds of Zurich.
Towering over the cityscape is the iconic Grossmünster, Zurich's main church, standing proudly across the river.
I then went to the Lindenhof to get an amazing view over the city. The Lindenhof is the historical site of the Roman castle, and the later Carolingian Kaiserpfalz. It is now a beautiful green vantage point over Zurich.
Interesting enough, the church clock of St. Peter has the largest tower clock face in Europe. No wonder Switzerland dominates watchmaking!
Chocolate Delights and Serene Moments
Amidst my exploration, I stumble upon a charming chocolate shop. Intrigued, I stepped inside and inquire about their most popular treat. The staff recommended the champagne truffle, and I eagerly indulged in both the dark chocolate and milk varieties. The richness of the truffles, made with luscious cream instead of milk powder, is simply divine. Highly recommended!
Finding a peaceful spot by the water, I sat down to savour my chocolates. In the distance, a pair of elegant swans gracefully glade across the serene waters. Zurich's beauty truly enchanted me.
Discovering Zurich's Livability
One of the remarkable features of Zurich is its abundance of fountains, each offering drinkable water. More than 1,200 fountains that can be found every few meters throughout the city. This is one of the reasons why Zurich consistently ranks as one of the most livable cities in the world. I took a moment to appreciate this unique aspect while exploring the city.
A Scenic Adventure
I then hopped aboard a ferry (Zurich to Felsenegg with Lake Zurich Ferry), ready to immerse myself in the scenic wonders of Zurich. We then embarked on a cable car ride that took us up a mountain, offering breathtaking views of Lake Zurich and the charming town of Adliswil on the other side.
I booked this adventure via Expedia with Best of Switzerland Tour.
At the mountain's summit, a cozy café awaits. Thirsty from the journey, I ordered a refreshing drink and took a leisurely walk through nature to reach the café. Surrounded by tranquility and natural beauty, I was in awe of Zurich's peaceful charm.
Indulging in Swiss Delicacies
Before bidding farewell to Zurich, I set out on a mission to find the quintessential Swiss dish: cheese fondue. I stumbled upon a delightful restaurant called Swiss Chuchi, where I eagerly dug into a steaming pot of this heavenly creation. The cheese fondue, made with Swiss perfection, was a true winner.
As my time in Zurich drew to a close, I reflected on the enchanting experiences I've had in this remarkable city. Zurich's blend of history, natural beauty, and culinary delights has left an indelible mark on my travel memories.
