Best of Sicily West Coast

Best of Sicily West Coast

Sicily is one of my very favorite Italian regions for its diverse beauty and unbelievably delicious foods. This map hits my favorite destinations on the Western side of Sicily: Palermo, Trapani, and close nearby. A preview of what you'll find: a breakfast spot, one of my favorite markets, pizza, fine dining options, a pub, a cocktail bar and a winery, and some must-see and off-the-beaten path monuments and locations. Purchase this value-packed map for a culinary-centric guide to Western Sicily with all of my best recommendations or reach out for a Custom Map. Don't forget to save โ˜‘๏ธ this map for future use!

I strongly recommend making reservations in advance when possible, or at least giving a quick call on the day-of, because business opening hours might vary.

Mercato di Ballarรฒ
@MementoMartina
Do you want to know and experience Sicily in its soul? Then you have to take a walk through the Ballarรฒ market, where the vendors "wage war" on each other and attract people to the sound of the musical shouts in the Sicilian dialect. Fruits, vegetables, fish and fresh meats, spices and dried fruit, street food to be the envy of anyone! Walk through the market in the late morning or around lunchtime and visit the various stands and delis to enjoy: - arancine stuffed with meat and peas; - cones of mixed fried seafood; - octopus and potato salad; - "stigghiola": roast spring onion wrapped in lamb or goat intestines!

La Tavernaccia
@MementoMartina
Affordable, simple, local cuisine. The menu, handwritten and photocopied, changes every day. They tend to open later than other restaurants, usually after 1pm and after 8pm. Order: - "rigatoni alla Norma" with eggplant and savory "ricotta salata" cheese.

Osteria Ballarรฒ
@MementoMartina
Lovely restaurant in the historic center, with exposed stone walls, arches and ceilings with wooden beams and a characteristic skylight, built inside a former stable of the 1600s. The menu offers a cuisine where tradition and creativity come together in a culinary proposal of exception, with the use of excellent local products including many slow food products. A second, more informal menu is available in the wine room. Wide choice of wines with over 600 local and national labels. Bread and pasta are homemade. They also have a children's menu, and fish or meat tasting menus. Aficionados can check out the extra-virgin-olive oils menu.
