Egyptian Bazaar
@lindamiller
The Egyptian Bazaar, also known as the Spice Bazaar, is one of the largest bazaars in Istanbul, Turkey. It is located in the Eminönü quarter of the Fatih district, and is the most famous covered shopping complex after the Grand Bazaar. The Egyptian Bazaar was built in 1660 during the reign of Sultan Mehmed IV, and was originally used as a warehouse for spices and other goods imported from Egypt. The bazaar is named after the fact that it was built with the revenues from the Ottoman eyalet (province) of Egypt. The Egyptian Bazaar is a popular tourist destination, and is known for its wide variety of spices, herbs, teas, dried fruits, nuts, and other food items.
