Flores, a charming island town on Lake Petén Itzá, is the perfect base for exploring northern Guatemala. Wander its colorful streets, enjoy delicious local food, and relax in cozy lakeside accommodations. From visiting the ancient ruins of Tikal to kayaking and sunset boat rides, there’s no shortage of adventure!
Sooooooo many places to get amazing coffee and good views, typically with an amazing view of the water. Some places accept credit cards (with a fee of 8-10%) but try to have cash on hand, it's much easier!
right on the water, and a popular place to grab some good food and a drink; they have brekkie food, amazing burgers and all the refreshing drinks you need (kombucha, coffee, smoothies, juices tea - even cocktails!)
You can also get all-day kayak rentals from here - 70Q for a single kayak, and 100Q for a 2-person kayak
This place has it all - amazing drinks, good breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. You can get sweet or savory here and all for a good price! Not to mention, this is right on the water...
Connected to the beautiful Delirio.. this is a phenomenal place to eat and the presentation of the food is just beautiful. If you want to have a nice dinner - this is the place to go!
Good food with prices that matches to quality - be ready to spend a little more here but they have amazing fish dishes and the food is absolutely delicious .
5Q per empanadas... supervised by Mama Lina herself - come here later in the afternoon/early night, as it typically isn't open during the day. Such amazing local food

Places to Stay
Here are my recommendations for hostels in the area - you can also book on Airbnb but try to be ON the island of Flores, or right over the bridge - so you're close to everything. The island of Flores is extremely walkable, but I wouldn't recommend walking past the bridge, that leads you to the island - it can get a little rough and you don't want to stand out as a tourist
A small hostel close to everything, they have a female-only dorm, mixed dorm, and a private room. A lot of outdoor space and a small kitchen that has everything you need. The owner is kind and welcoming, and there are daily yoga classes and walking tours.
A hostel and a restaurant, and even a weekly boat party. One of the first-ever hostels in Guatemala - this is a bright and vibrant place but be prepared to party! They also have a lot of sitting areas and games you can play with AND a communal kitchen. You can book a lot of transportation and tours directly from here. They have private rooms, apartments, and dorms to choose from.
This colorful hostel is right on the water, and has both private and shared rooms available! They also have a nice outdoor section available to relax and kick-back.
A hotel with an amazing coffee shop connected! If you wanna avoid the hostels - this is another hotel you can be a little more upscale at!

Day Trips from Flores
Check with hostels or tour agencies to set some of these tours up - and make sure you have CASH for these, some parks and excursions are cash only so be prepared.
From Flores, you can also get direct and affordable shuttles/busses into Mexico and Belize
You can either get here by taking a kayak or by going by speedboat (lancha). The cost is 25Q, and you can't bring any outside food or drinks - but they do have food and drinks to purchase ranging from 15-50Q!
I definitely recommend going around 2pm, and staying until sunset!
This is a beautiful, crystal-clear natural pool tucked away in the jungles of Guatemala - right on the other side of Flores. It’s a great spot to cool off, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and take in a bit of history from the nearby ancient Maya ruins.
