Tokyo in Spring

Tokyo in Spring

Doreen Prado
They say the best time to visit Japan is during the Spring Season, I say, the best time doesn’t matter as the country is beautiful all year long. However, with stunning views, sakura watching, and many new attractions, comes crowds from all over. This guide shows my personal recommendations and places we’ve visited during our time in Japan.

Before your trip,

1.  Purchase an e-sim

If you’re like me who hasn’t mastered reading (or speaking) Japanese, then you’ll be relying a lot on your phone for directions. Google Maps was a lifesaver for our trip. Having unlimited data will take you to the places you want to go in a fast and hassle-free way! I bought my e-sim from Klook which covered our whole Japan trip (for one week) and did not only just cover the Tokyo area, but to other cities we visited.

When you get there,

1. Purchase a Skyliner Ticket ahead

There are options on how you get from Narita Airport to the city, you could take the Skyliner (the one which looks like a bullet train) or the JR Narita Express. You could save more by purchasing through Klook than through ticket vending machines in the station.

2. Buy a Welcome Suica Card

We arrived at Keisei Ueno Sta. and bought our Welcome Suica Cards at the JR East Ticketing Office.

What’s the difference between a Welcome Suica and Suica Card?

The 500 JYP deposit is not required while using the Welcome Suica, which is a tap-and-go travel card with the same features to the basic Suica card. It is a useful card that is advised for tourists on short-term stays or who want to stay in Japan for up to 28 days.

Welcome to Japan!

Where to eat:

Before you go about your day,

Drop by a convenience store and buy food that you could take on the go! One things for sure, walking around will definitely make you hungry. Although, walking while eating is discouraged, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes around.

Should be top of the list for anyone. Its a little walk from the hotel but worth it! The perfect spot to appreciate sakura without the crowds of people. The park is so big that 1 hour to go around was not enough.
