São Jorge island (Azores) 

São Jorge Island is one of the 9 Islands of Azores, it is situated in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. It as 53 km of length and 8 km of width, with a total of 236,59 km² of area. The total populacion is 9171 habitants.

São Jorge cheese is one of the Famous food produced just in São Jorge Island, because of that this cheese os classified as DOP (protected designation of origin). 

São Jorge cheese is produced since the VX century, and it is made with raw cow milk.  This product it is very important for the economy of the Island.

You can visit the small factory of this cheese in Velas, where you will see the employees working in the process of producing São Jorge cheese and it will be given a small explanation of the process of making this food. At the end you can taste some of the cheese.

This coffee shop is really Famous because during a long time it was the online coffe produced in Europe. The owner of this business as a coffe plantation in the back of is house and coffe shop. It is a family business. 

You can order a cup of São Jorge coffee and a tipical cake from there made with coffee to or simply a toast with São Jorge cheese and after you can visit the coffee plantation with the owner itself. 

Near the coffee plantion they still have 3 looms where they do handmade rugs.

This place is found in Fajã dos Vimes, in the county of Calheta. The word Till you get there os amazing with some viewpoints along the way. 

This island is divided in Fajãs, small places of the island where there are houses, places to dive, etc. Some of them are really dificult to reach and you could only do that by foot.

You could see this park without sun and a little bit of fog, in fact it gives beautiful mistic views of this place. 

In this park you have a lot of viewpoints and some animals to see. You can do all of this by tracking or by car. 

Near this park you have the Ponta dos Rosais, where you have a viewpoint of 360 degrees where you can see Pico, Faial and Graciosa, 3 obter island of Azores. You can also see the abandoned lighthouse of Rosais. You can do trail  from floresta das Sete fontes to this viewpoint or go by car.

In here you can see the lighthouse of Topo and the islander of Topo. 

You can also freshen up in the natural pool of pontinha do Topo. 

You have to walk 100/200 meters to see this waterfall. Park the car near the sign of the waterfall of cruzal. 

* The most Famous one: Poça Simão Dias 

Near this natural pool you have another one less touristic, Poça do Carneiro.

To all of this places take snorkel equipment, because you will be able to see a lot of Marina life. 

*Fajã dos Cubres e Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo:

You have two ways of going to Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, none of them by car because it is impossible. 

You can park your car in Fajã dos Cubres and walk a path Till the other Fajã. It is a linear trail of 4,5 km each way (9 km in total). It is an amazing walk with beautiful landescape. 

Or you can do a much bigger trail from Serra do Topo to Caldeira de Santo Cristo and ending in Fajã dos Cubres. The trail is 10 km each way ( total  20 km). And during this trail you pass to two waterfalls. If you decide to choose this trail I advice you to start at Serra do Topo and go all the way down to Fajã dos Cubres and then there take a taxi to your car in Serra do Topo. 

During this road you will pass through a viewpoint where you can see the all Fajã dos Cubres. 

Another thing you can do from Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo to Fajã dos Cubres is paying 30 euros one way for a motorbike. 

In Fajã da CALDEIRA DE SANTO CRISTO you can walk around to see this beautiful fajã. 

There is only one place where you can eat in here and it is called Borges. The owners of this restaurant are locals, and with just one more couple are the only ones who live in this Fajã the all year. 

In Borges they have credit card machine but sometimes it does not work so you better take some money to pay. The food is not super fabulous but it is okey and the views from the restaurant are amazing and the owners very nice. 

You could try in this restaurant the local clams. This clams only grow in the bay of this fajã.

This Fajã it is considered a natural reserve by the Azores government, in part because of the reproduction of the clams. 

You can also snorkel in the bay of this Fajã.

If you are too tired to walk the rest of the trail you can ask the owner of the restaurant to call one of the owners of the motobikes to take you till the end of the trail.
