A never seen DUBAI
We all know Dubai for its stunning buildings, huge malls, islands built in the middle of the ocean, skyscrapers touching the sky, expensive restaurant, beach parties and gold..Yes this side of Dubai is amazing but no... Dubai is not only this, is much more than that.
Bur Dubai
Lets start our journey where all began back in the 19th century, where Dubai was a fishermans' town and this area one of the biggest worldwide trade for pearl, fish, spices and more.
To reach this area you can use taxi or metro, is very easy to reach, but if you decide to go by metro keep in mind that the nearest metro station is Burjuman, that is around 10mins away from the canal.
To start with this beautiful street,
Al Seef Street
i know in the evening is more charming, but i am sure you will love it. Its a mix of elegance, history, traditional goods and fancy cafès. One of the most famous and Instagrammable Starbucks in the world can be found here.
This beautiful district leads to the magical
Al Fahidi Historical Center.
I love this neighborhood as it has all i like: art, history and coffee!
If you are a coffee lover (like me) then a must stop to the Coffee Museum, yes i know Dubai has one. Is a relaxing , cozy environment, showcase a wide selection of antique items illustrating regional and international coffee history and culture.
Ok so we walked through history, we visited a coffee museum, now its time for some art, in the most unique place in Dubai:
XVA Art Hotel
But XVA Art Hotel is not just a beautiful Boutique Hotel, but is where art, culture, heritage and creativity meet, with art exhibition of every kind, Art Consultancy and Advisory Services and of course dont forget to enjoy a refreshing mint lemonade in their green and cozy courtyard @XVA Cafè
Our journey continues up north, walking through one of the Souk of the Old Dubai:
Bur Dubai Souk Market
One of the biggest Souk in Bur Dubai: here people will try to drag you into their store, try to sell you everything, so be ready to bargain, be friendly and polite and support the local community even with small purchase.
Al Shindagha Museum
This place is great, you have a better understanding of how was Dubai in the past centuries and how it became the city that we see today.
Discover the traditions, the history, the enduring tales of human resilency spread over 2 pavillions and more than 80 houses, each one explore it different aspect of Dubai cultural heritage.
The museum offers also many workshops.
It's now time to jump on an Abra
from Bur Dubai is just 1 AED, but dont get confused, the RTA also has water taxi, those are the newest and modern boats.. you can surely see the difference. From Bur Dubai Souk Market a 5 min journey will take you in the Old Souk, where you can have some fun around the
Dubai Spice Souk and the Gold Souk
here dont be scared, just play around, interact with local people, they will try to see you even the house and drag you to their shop, but if you are not interested just be polite and nice. If you want to have some fun , bargain here is quite an experience.
Take a break with a fresh juice from this place; this old man will prepare all the juices you want at the cheapest prices! Not to miss!
So this is just a glimpse of the Old Dubai...the beginning, where all started, here you have a better understading of the city and how became the city we see today.
