Costa Rica is a biodiversity hotspot with lush rainforests, pristine beaches, and diverse wildlife. The country is separated into 7 different provinces, each offering their own unique culture and sights. 

A charming and historical area in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. The capital city of this providence also named Alajuela and is often called the City of Mangos due to the abundance of mango trees. This is an easy to travel to away from the hubbub of San Jose. The famous Arenal Volcano is also located in this province. 

Also known as the Ancient Metropoli, Cartago was the capital of Costa Rica until 1823, when this title was transferred to the city of San José. It is a relatively small province, and is one of the least visited areas.

Located in the Pacific Northwest of the country, Guanacaste is known for its beaches, resorts, and relaxation. This is one of the most popular areas for tourists to visit. 

Located a short drive from the capital city of San José, this province boasts extensive outdoor recreation and amenities as well as an urban center. The city of Herediais is one of the oldest in the country, and provides a slower pace of life than San José. This region is also famous for its coffee plantations and stunning volcanoes.

Costa Rica’s capital has world class museums, theaters, parks, and more. One of the major international airports is located here and it’s a great place to immerse yourself in culture. 

Known at the Pearl of the Pacific, this is the largest province in Costa Rica. This area is is full of islands, inlets, beaches, and very beautiful natural treasures, all which make it an excellent tourist destination. 

The caribbean province is a natural paradise, formed by a combination of dense jungles, imposing mountains, and paradisiac beaches. Limón has the highest percentage of protected land in Costa Rica, as well as a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Experience the vibrant festivals that celebrate Costa Rica's diverse heritage, such as the Fiestas Patronales (patron saint festivals), Carnival, and Independence Day celebrations. Semana Santa (typically during Easter week) is known as Holy Week and no alcohol is served during this time. 

Indulge in Costa Rica's delicious culinary delights, including gallo pinto (rice and beans), casado (a typical lunch dish), ceviche, and tropical fruits like mangoes, pineapples, and papayas.

Costa Rica has a dry and rainy season. The best time to visit is Dec-April when the weather is at its driest and brightest. Please be aware that if you travel into the different regions of Costa Rica weather will vary. 

The official currency is the Costa Rican colón, but US dollars are widely accepted. 

There are two major international airports in Costa Rica. Liberia and San José. I recommend choosing whichever airport is closer to the province/provinces you’re planning on visiting.
